Friends of mine have recently had a baby and have been thinking about what they should do for her baptism, while another friend is due her baby shortly. Both are wondering whether or not it is possible to baptise a child outside the church? I mean, its not as if baptism started in churches but just wondering what the "rules" of such an event are. A close friend of theirs happens to be a priest but lives in a different parish and with a lot of elderly people including grandparents it would not be possible to travel, however, it may be possible that he could come. Can anyone help?

I'd say it would be possible to have a small service or gathering at another location depending on how willing the priest was to carry it out. Just out of interest what is the reason for opposition to having it in a church?

Choosing which church would be a bigger problem, in both situations, the parents are from different parishes, and live in neither. When getting married they received quite a lot of bother about which church they should marry in and in the end chose another. They also live in the most beautiful countryside with plenty of space for family and friends and especially children- together with the fact that if they were to have this priest baptise the baby in his parish they would be travelling 75miles.
I can see where they're coming from, anyways why not celebrate life outside surrounded by such beauty in a much more relaxed and personal environment. Would you not agree?

I suppose if you have the space why not, I wonder if your local priest would be interested in doing it outside of a church though.

Why can't they just do it in their local church?

Not at infancy, but to be taken into the Kingdom of God, and saved. Yes. Read Mark 16:15-16
