Form setting up my sisters Eircom the cd that comes with your router is needed to get the Key. As it generates the Key Using your routers serial number.

You could always just crack the key if it's WEP encryption :)

On the cabled connection in a console (Start Run CMD on NT4, Win2K or XP),
    ipconfig /all
    C:\Documents and Settings\JoeSoap>ipconfig /all

    Windows IP Configuration

            Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MAGRAT
            Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
            Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
            IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
            WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

    Ethernet adapter WiFi:

            Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
            Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Dell TrueMobile 1180 Internal 802.11
    b Mini PCI Card
            Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-90-4B-B0-07-E0
            Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
            IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.116
            Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
            Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
            DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
                                                192.168.0.2

enter the address of the "gateway" into IE or Firefox etc webbrowser. In this case http://192.168.0.1

On my example I have done this from laptop, on wireless. Do it on a cabled ethernet connection that works with Internet.

Configure the wireless network with a key of your own choosing (after writing down the settings!) and ideally WPA rather than "none" or "WEP" for encrption.

Then put the same settings on the WiFi client.

    For Eircom it will be

Forget about wep - using http://192.168.1.254 access the router (via ethernet of course) - change the security option to wpa which is more secure and easier to use - choose a password - which you will then use to access the wireless network and you are away. Dont forget to say your settings before exiting.

don't forget to write the new key on a bit of paper and stick it to the bottom of the router for the next time you lose it! ;)
