OK, here's a question, what hand range do you (A) put me on and (B) put our Villain on and (C) of the Villains range what hands do you expect to call my Push.

I hadn't played with this Villain for long, but I noticed that he had some biggish stacks on a couple of tables and appeared to know what he was doing, I'd also think he recognised that I also knew what I was doing. That's all the read I had, I would have respected his game. We hadn't tangled yet apart from the odd button steal from me, he didn't seem to want to get involved OOP. I hadn't been splashing around at all on this table, I got my stack from winning a decent pot with AK (K high flop) other than that I was picking my spots well and hadn't shown down a hand, and would be viewed as a TAG.

    Seat 1: Ste05 ($268.60 in chips)
Seat 3: FoRevErRich ($581.80 in chips)
Seat 5: Thinking Villain ($280.30 in chips)
    Seat 6: Ahcp18 ($269.05 in chips)
Seat 8: lllgabi ($132.95 in chips) DEALER
Seat 10: HansFuchs ($241.56 in chips)
    HansFuchs: Post SB $1.00
    Ste05: Post BB $2.00
    *** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Thinking Villain [Y, Y]
    Dealt to Ste05 [X, X]
    FoRevErRich: Raise $8.00
    Thinking Villain: Call $8.00
    Ahcp18: Call $8.00
    lllgabi: Fold
    HansFuchs: Fold
    Ste05: Raise $29.00
    FoRevErRich: Fold
    Thinking Villain: Raise $86.00
    Ahcp18: Fold
    Ste05: Call $63.00

Well you should have aces or kings, you close the action calling more than a 1/5 of your stack. Unless you think he is messing around (i dont) his range is probably AA KK, small chance of AK. Your bet on the flop makes no sense whatsover with KK so I think you have aces, QQ or AKs also are possible but I think you should fold both preflop.

I think the villain is most likely to have KK, then AA, then AK. Maybe QQ. He is calling your push with all of those hands (Ak of whatever suit is on the flop).

Edit: Just reread he's a good TAG. You should always have AA/KK and he should always have JJ-AA or AK, maybe AQ. Id be surprise dif he had JJ/QQ though.

He has AA or KK and so do you. If not he is not as you described and/or you should not be in the pot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Shortstack

Furthermore on the action as described you should not have any less than KK and should have stuck it in Preflop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Shortstack

Actually you should have AA with a third of your stack in pre, I would imagine you ship it preflop with KK. He could have AA-JJ/AK or something stupid. The way you played it lets him know your range exactly and he only puts more chips in the pot with a hand that beats AA.

I think you have AA, though I hate your flop bet. I think he must have AA/KK/QQ/AKspades/(slight chance of AQ) once he calls you. Preflop though I think AK is his most likely hand, I rarely see this move with AA/KK at 1/2, but often see it with AK. Sometimes I see it with AQs, which is prolly more likely than AA/KK.

you had KK and so did villian?

OK, results he had AA and I lost. I didn't read him at all for AA TBH and I pushed the flop expecting him to fold, pretty bad now it seems.

Here's what went through my mind, I respected his game but thought he wouldn't smooth call in such EP with AA or KK, then when he raised my fairly obvious squeeze I put him on some kind of low to mid pair looking to re-squeeze, so I decided to call and push any flop. Kind of back fired when he called with his AA.

    um...
You should have put him on a hand that would call that. :_)

Did you push the flop with no outs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Afraid so, I had 84o. I just trusted my read, I was sure he was good enough to re-squeeze with a small to mid pair, and was also fairly sure he could fold if I pushed. Unfortunately my read wasn't any where near as good as I thought it was, it was only based on about 150 hands, but after playing with him some more tonight on 2 different tables I vastly over-estimated his level. And I'll never make the move against him again. He didn't adjust to my style at all nor did he ever play back at me.

I wouldnt play back at someone who called a big reraise from me and pushed all in with 84o with no pair and no draw either!

LOL true, although I more meant he didn't start calling me down lighter. He basically just completely stayed out of pots with me which I found odd.

I didn't to me and I saw this as a lovely spot to win a nice pot because the stack sizes were about perfect. Although it certainly worked out very well for him that time.

:D Thanks Bops, although this kind of thing is a VERY rare occurrence for me and it's rare I find a spot like this.

OK here's another hand from this session, who plays it any differently. This hand is about 2 or 3 orbits later, This guy made a comment after my push of "Stupid Bluff" so you can assume he was watching and he was only only playing this table, he got his stack with a nice run of cards one in particular where he won a nice pot against a guy on an A,6,10,6,10 board with 67 v AQ (where he check called the flop, check min-raised the turn and bet half pot on the River). And another few lucky hands. I didn't rate him too highly. He was 39/15.5/1.23

    Seat 1: Ste05 ($205.00 in chips)
Seat 3: FoRevErRich ($606.35 in chips)
Seat 5: Thinking Villain ($559.90 in chips)
    Seat 6: Ahcp18 ($261.05 in chips)
Seat 10: HansFuchs ($209.56 in chips) DEALER
    Ste05: Post SB $1.00
    FoRevErRich: Post BB $2.00
    *** HOLE CARDS ***
    Dealt to Ste05 [Qs Js]
    Thinking Villain: Fold
    Ahcp18: Fold
    HansFuchs: Fold
    Ste05: Raise $6.00
    FoRevErRich: Raise $20.00
    Ste05: Call $15.00
    *** FLOP *** [2c 4s 9c]
    Ste05: Bet $35.00
    FoRevErRich: Call $35.00
    *** TURN *** [9s]
    Ste05: Check
    FoRevErRich: Check
    *** RIVER *** [8s] Pot: $114 and I've $148 behind
    Ste05???

Feel free to post "Fold PF" but I didn't and I'm not too worried about playing this hand OOP in a Blind on Blind battle against this guy.

Edited to make the suits easier to see, bloody iPoker HH's
