can anyone advise if it's worth spending 40euro on new canon ink for this printer or might it be more adviseable for me to just upgrade the printer entirely.i dont want to use cheap ink as i'm using canon photo paper pro for
    printing photos.

Well worth replacing the ink imho. I had an IP400 for a couple of years and the print quality was hard to beat. Only sold it recently because I need an all-in-one with wireless built in so I bought another Canon (PIXMA MP 600R).
