Was that the show with a enigmatic broody scimitar wielding Saracen in it ?

I remember being on a school tour to Windsor Castle, which in my mind was right beside Sherwood Forest (I know) and I kept expecting to see looneys with curved swords leaping out of trees saying "Stand & Deliver" to the coach driver ... I was only five or six at the time :)

Amazingly enough Ray Winstone was a regular cast member of this show (playing Will Scarlet). He was by far my fav character just for all his dissension

One of my first box set purchases after the Sharpe one. Probably the best Robin Hood show or film ever made.

Great soundtrack by Clannad as well

I thought the trippy bits with Hern the Hunter were class! and seconded on the Clannad soundtrack. We* have it at home on vinyl

Don't own it but saw it on original broadcast and have watched some of the DVDs.

There are three series. 26 episodes in total.
One and two (13 episodes between them) have Michael Praed as Robin, series three (13 episodes) has Jason Connery.

I think series three isn't up to the standard of the first two. Plus when it was being made, the decision to cease production had not been made prior to shooting the last series so it ends somewhat abruptly.

Network are the company who have released the DVDs and they've put out some amazing archive stuff.

Yep, Sean's boy. And then its popularity slid. People were so insanely in love with Michael Praed. Can't understand it myself. He's too pretty and girlie. And God knows what became of him. The Clannad theme tune is magnificent - so haunting. That programme was absolutely huge.

Loved this show. I bought the entire series on Box set from PLay.com
a few years back. The Discs themselves were rubbish quality and double sided.
They casued lots of playback problems. I ended up giving them away
to my girlfriends brother. (I wanted Sharpe box set too but too expensive!)

Liked Michael Pared but could not stand when they killed him off
and replaced him with Jason Connery.

    Ray Wintsone Rocked.

I could not stand the actress who played Maid Marrion as I thought she
    was very un-attractive.

It started off good and ended up crap. I never liked the whole hippy hern the hunter
and kinda pagen theme that went through the show.

The Soundtrack by Clanned was brilliant and it was the First CD that ever
entered our Household when CD players were newish and expensive things
    to buy in Ireland.

    Old and Grey now:

Does the Robin of Sherwood have the pukka HTV front and end captions on it??

    You know....

Yes it does (same as above but without Cymru Wales).

    Splendid, Ruu... :)

I'm a stickler for that sort of thing. A lot of TV companies, if the rights to programmes have changed owners down the years, will drop the old TV company name, simply because it doesn't exist anymore.

For instance, if you got a Famous Five or Worzel Gummidge DVD, chances are, the old Southern Television caption will not be there.

It loses some of its authenticity, I feel.

How spooky - was eating in a well-known pub in Blackrock today and Clannad's "Robin Hood" came on their internal music system. Is there a boards reader operating the sound system there...?

Cracking tune it were although I can't recall the original show that much, bar the fact that it shocked me when it had the audacity to kill Robin Hood...

I used to love this series and I really liked the mystical/pagan bits with Herne the Hunter. Like a lot of people I completely lost interest in the show when Jason Connery joined.

A very good show overall imo.

Shocking indeed, didn't like it. Herne protect us all!

OMG remember it well. Think I mentioned it in AT Retro before but the Clanad theme tune always had me confused. At seven I used to go around the house singing "Robin, the hooooool-i-gaaaaan", my older brother took great delight in correcting me that it was in fact "Robin, the hooded man..." Smart Arse David.;)
