Well. My boss has gone home. My boss's boss has gone home. Everybody I ring has either gone home or was never in.

    Boo hoo. Not fair.

My wife doesn't work Fridays but I'd be damned if I'd rather be at home with my energetic 2.5 year old!

A colleague and friend of mine works Monday - Wednesday everyweek. And hes MALE. So from my experience if you wanna work a part-time week then you can, irrespective of what sex you are.

Tough titties so, if you want Friday's off ya better start looking for a new job in that case!! or else sleep with ur boss to smooth things over ;)

Most playschools and creches are not open on fridays (dont know why), so its common for mums with young children to take friday off.
Most women I know who do this claim they do 5 days work in the other 4 days of the week. Since I hardly break a sweat any day of the week I have no problem swallowing that particular crock of sh1t.
BTW I took today off too. Reason - because its sunny and I felt like it

Does the word 'Minger' mean anything to you? There is a lot I would do for the cause, but we all have limits.

If "she" is not workling Friday - either "she" is probably working part-time or she is taking parental leave - you can be your bottom dollar thet either way she is not getting paid for that day. It's not costing you or her employer anything to give her these reduced hours - what's your problem with that? If you have kids under 8 you can take parental leave too on any days that your employer agrees to(unpaid) or there is nothing stopping you from asking for a reduction in your hours (and reduction in your salary).

I've never come across a creche or playschool that doesn't open Mon to Fri (inclusive).

There's two of them in the place where I work. Jobsharers that is.

They 'work' 3 days per week each but strange thing is between the two of them they barely even manage to get half a weeks work done between them. The majority of their time 'working' is spent yapping on (and off) the phone about babies and holidays and weddings. They really are a disgrace.

heard it loads as i used to work in telesales. Its common for people to work a 3-4 day week especially if the company has a work life balance policy (these policies are not restricted to just working mothers)

we have a work life balance policy here - its great expect when it comes in to the summer months and half the bloody company is on term-time with their little darlings and the rest of us have to pick up the slack

Its an awful shame we gave them the vote and got rid if the snugs!!
I have to say where i work there are 5 supervisiors, one male, and the woman seem to get time off on the sly left right and centre for a whole host of reasons, wheras the other fella always ends up picking up the slack for them and rarely if ever gets it!!

3 women in my workplace don't work on Fridays - they're all new mothers. There's one guy who works Tuesday to Friday lunch time but I think that's because he's close to retiring and has been gradually cutting down his hours over the last few years.

More men tend to work full time in jobs, and would not retire as early. Therefore they generally have more experience and hence tend to command a higher wage for (apparently) the same job. Simple logic really, though it upsets many people. If men could get pregnant and were the ones mainly looking after kids their average wage would be less, makes perfect sense.

I know a guy who has every wednesday off. Though he usually works them but the entire day is classed as overtime.
