Anyone know how much it costs to get fish shipped from Thailand to Ireland? Would they get through customs? I'm not having much luck finding information about transporting live animals online. Any help would be appreciated.

there is a really good website called www.petfishstore.com!:D I ordered 6 crowntail bettas off it a month ago and there was no D.O.A's:). Also a pair of these became my best show bettas:cool:, and another pair became my first breeding pair:D. They all had lovely colours, and they are all still alive;)! I am also expecting some mollies, guppies, angelfish and plants off it!:p

    I hope this helped you.:)

PS: they havent got a big selection of bettas at the moment, because they said there is a termite problem.

I had no luck online either but after spending many hours over many days and weeks on the telephone the best I could find out is that there is no need for any documentation to bring in tropical fish.

I have not tried it yet but like you I have been looking at some of the Bettas from the specialist breeders in the far east with envy. You never see anything like them in Dublin... if I did I would have no hesitation in paying a high price for them:)

Mail the breeder you want to buy from and I am sure you will be quoted shipping charges. Mind you, I have been waiting for an airmail delivery (not live fish!) from Singapore for the past 8 days and it has not arrived yet:(

I know Bettas travel well compared to other fish but I do not know how they would fare if it takes 8 days or more.

Contact the Department of Marine, and ask to be put through to the Fish Health Department....this should be your first stop before you make any other arrangements for importing these fish ;)

I did that and was left feeling a bit odd when they said that no paperwork was needed. It just did not feel right:confused: However if I intended importing cold water fish it would have been a different matter.

Anyone with actual experience of doing it?
