Travelling to New York from Shannon in August and am trying to decide who to travel with - Aer Lingus or Delta. The prices are practically the same but would anyone recommend on of the airlines above the other...

    :)

To be honest, there isn't that much of a difference.

Here's a recent thread on the same subject

The only real difference I found was the attitude of the Aer Lingus staff. You are a major inconvenience to them, whereas the Delta staff have this whole crazy "customer satisfaction" thing going.

Yup... agree with you there Tom.

For some reason Delta seem to think that "customer service" makes a difference.

As mentioned go with Delta for the luggage allowance, much more
room for all that US shopping ;) 2 x 20kg on Delta compared to 1 x30kg
on Aerlingus last time I flew - check your ticket or their websites for
exact details. If you go Delta it's best to bring 2 check in bags to avoid
paying baggage excess. Plus Aerlingus are really just turning into Ryanair
now with their approach to customer service and surcharges.

Isn't the DL flight via ATL still?

If so, why add time to your journey? It really makes jetlag worse.

If AL are direct, they would be my choice.

DL's planes are some of the oldest I have flown on transatlantic. Numb ar$e by seatcushion territory. Their cabin crew wouldn't know customer service if it hit them in the head.

ATL airport is cool however. Very efficient. Very well laid out. Reasonable eats too. But why would you? Even with a baggage charge.

I'd defintely fly with Delta over Aer Lingus transatlantic anyday.
I flew with AL to LX once nd I would never fly tansatlntic with them again

For a start the entertainment system on the plane was a joke, one monitor between around 12 passengers and only 3 films for an 11 hour flight, the cabin crew were also very hard to find as they spent most of the flight in the crew area eating the first class chocolates.

I have also flown with Delta from SFO vis ATL and the service was much better, both entertainment wise and crew.

I normally fly with Virgin Atlantic when I'm going transatlantic as they have the best planes, best food, best crew and by far the best entertainment system (over 50 movies on demand and cd jukebox etc)
