Reduced capacity for Champions League ties

IIRC, most clubs playing CL ties (in England anyway) have to reduce their capacity due to the first few rows being too low down to see over the bigger advertising hoardings.

If that's true, has anyone any idea what sort of % of seats are affected?

For example, Stamford Bridge was nearly 3000 below capacity for the semi against Liverpool, seems a lot.

At the bridge we lose a load of seats for every CL game, but not because of bigger hoardings, they fence off a few rows behind each goal for some reason, but then the also block off 3 rows of seats, at the very back, in 2 of the stands for no apparent reason and they also have blocked off a few hundred seats for health and safety reasons when there are additional tv crews / outside broadcast units parked outside.

Most of these changes are pointless though as far as i can see, think it depends on their assessment of the stadia though, didn't notice any restrictions placed on seating in Porto or in Barcelona though.

Is there a reason why English clubs cover 3 or 4 rows (vertical) to separate fans? Surely the pespex barrier like they use in Rome would only need a narrow gap andnot result in a big covered section.

Havign big sections of covered seats for CL games does my head in. Is it something that affects older stadiums and new ones alike? I didnt think to notice during Arsenals games, did they take this into account when building the stadium and work around it?

ya, is to do with silly advertising restrictions alright. old trafford looses about 1500-2000 seats

First four rows are covered in the kop and anfield road end, no restrictions in the stands mind. Or at least I have not been aware of any, have been a bit higher up in those seats and are accessed from a different area.

Not sure if it's to do with the advertising hoardings or if fans have to be a minimum distance from the pitch.

Whatever the rule is, it's been in place for donkeys years.
