    I'm guessing the 350D doesn't count as professional :D

I have to bring mine back AGAIN. There's something wrong with the battery or the battery connection.

are you using the single battery / vertical grip on the 350d sinead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

Single Battery. It keeps telling me its out (after about ten shots on a full charge yesterday  ) but if I take it out and put it back in again it works ok. I dunno..

I wonder if they would look at a 400d and use their fancy tools (like cotton bud etc) to clean a spec of stubborn dirt off the ccd and/or mirror?

I wouldn't mind traipsing in except the way things are going I can't escape the chain that binds me to work for a few hours.

Don't mind what the camera says ,just keep using it until it won't power the camera at all.Take it out and put it back in again if you have to.
Then when it's actually empty ,give it a full charge:)

The memory on some batteries ,needs training with the camera.

I find that autofocus stops working properly when the battery is run down before the camera tells me it's in trouble.

but then I have two spare batteries anyway...

Its an official Canon one - bought the camera new about a month ago. I was shooting in very low light yesterday so the autofocus was fighting with me before I gave up and went manual. I'm tempted to leave it and see if it settles, but then it *is* under warranty and Jessops claimed to only have a few left, so I don't want to be in a situation where it has to be replaced and they have nothing to replace it with. Then again, I'm not exactly thrilled about having to go in again. This is the second time the battery has gone early.

I might go in tomorrow and have a chat with them - see what they say.

definitely do that & don't be fobbed off - you've paid good money, expect nothing but the best!

you should invest in the vertical grip by the way - really makes the camera into something more substantial - doubles your battery life too & has a handy aa battery accessory for when the rechargeables die and you're on top of croagh patrick... had a 300d with the grip (made using long lenses much easier - more balanced)

Aww bugger. Don't take the chance, it's a pain in the ass but worth making sure it's 100% before you get to the stage where it'd have to get sent away to get fixed...

I wish they wouldn't do these things on weekdays. Don't they know that a lot of people are at work then????

don't forget it's for photographers... not exactly stuck in an office 9 to 5!
trips out to trade shows to schmooze with other practitioners was a nice part of the job

was there today checking in my 1 Ds (gone off to Blighty)

......got to play with the new EOS 1D Mark III - what a beaut!!
theres so much about it to instantly like - they were apparently more relaxed about peeps handling it and taking pics etc. than i gathered at the photofest thing! I suppose coz there was about four of them and me and one other person there, no chance of bolting down stairs with it!! :)

the new speedlight looks to be a big improvement over the existing 580EX too

got a quote off them as well

it's a bit spendy at €4,200.00 VAT incl

    ah well
    :)

Never mind what you want, its all about us or didnt you know/we tell you?? :D

Hi Darren, my best advice is to go with someone who knows Beijing. Beijing is huuuuuge, and not everyone speaks English there.
There are a few shopping centres there only sell photography equipments. They always give you two prices, take Canon 5D as an example: €1850(with Asian warranty) and €1700(shop warranty only, Canon Asia won't give a monkey about this camera). In both cases, the camera is the same, perfectly working and straight from the factory in Japan.
This is how they avoid paying tax.
I'll be in Beijing this summer and back to Ireland on the 16th July. I can be his guide if you need.

    Apart from 1D MarkIII, I'm also getting the following: EF16-35mm II(€1000), 580EX II(€365), EF70-200mm IS (€1350) and EF50mm f/1.8(€55). The EF 24-70mm can be bought for €900.

You pay similar prices in the states. Fly with Ryanair for €10 I guess.
