I am currently looking at buying either a 1ds or 1ds mark II.

So I am wondering if anyone here who owns or has used them (more than just a tryout in a shop) - is there much real world difference between the 2 ? If you own one are you happy with it -are there features you would prefer from the other one and so on ?

I have gone over the tech specs of each and the comparative reviews here and there and comparative tables too but still I wouldnt mind the opinion of someone who has first hand experience of either/both cameras. I think the question of whether the difference in spec worth the difference in price is very relative - but still is it ?

i own a Canon EOS-1 Ds and after using it for a while any other non 1 Series camera feels like a toy!! Especially the shutter and the general ergonomics it just feels so soo right!!
Unfortunately mine has a failed shutter so it's off the road at the moment :( the 1 Ds II has the exact same body. It's a heavy camera good for building up the biceps :) but everything about it is very responsive, once i learned the controls it was great, i suppose one thing i didn't like about the 1 Ds was the small preview screen hard to check for blur or poor focus etc, but then with 45 focus points you don't get that much and the viewfinder is the brightest biggest you'll see.
All in all a joy to use.

I miss my 1 Ds hope i don't have to sell a body part to get it fixed ;)

btw if i had money i'd by the 1 Ds II in a heartbeat or if i had less i'd go for the EOS-1D Mark II N with it's 1.3x crop factor and 48 frames in one burst

    oh yeah!!
