Guy's I'm looking for some real world comparisons by anyone who has owned // used these lenses ?

I'm shooting a wedding next month & I'm a touch wary on lense choice for the big day ....

While not having either lens, I'd say the zoom will give you most flexibility for shooting a wedding - 30mm is probably a bit wide for a wedding, even on a cropped sensor. You'll definitely need something good at the longer end for portraits, for which the 70mm option would be good, if depth of field is shallow enough.

Have a look at Photodo and FredMiranda, they're usually good for real world opinions

I've got both and they're both wonderful! The 30mm is fantastically contrasty and both are very sharp. The 24-70 is a bit noisy when focusing but you'll soon get over that. If it helps you any, I'll be using the 24-70 (with the 30mm in a bag nearby) when I shoot a wedding next month.

    Spoil yourself, buy both :D

is the 24-70 for cropped sensor only? Im not too familiar with the sigma lenses, i got a 17-70? i think it was, it was a great lens - pin sharp with good contrast but it was vignette city on the 5D..

the 24-70 is not specific to cropped sensor. I got one of these about a month ago and I must say I love it. Colours are very punchy and it's good in low light, although obviously not as good as a 1.4, but the DOF is much more manageable at 2.8

If I can shift the Sigma 170-500 I'll go for both but don't want to be holding on too long ...

The 24-70 can hunt a bit in low light, the 30 works great in low light.

1.4 is great in low light, 2.8 is alright.

Zoom is very handy, prime isn't...but, you have to remember, the 24-70 becomes a 40ish to 105ish, so it ain't all that wide anyways, would the extra light and better AF serve you better?

I have the 24-70 ... after intial problems with soft focussing ... and shipping it to Hahnel in Bandon to have it fixed ... it is pin sharp ... but it is a tad on the noisy side ...

Not quite in the same league as the 24-70 F2.8L methinks ... but for the extra money saved ... you can buy a lot of other stuff ...

I'm ordering a 10-20 this week, and I think you've nudged me towards the 24-70 aswell because shooting @ 1.4 isnt actually easy and I can just use the nifty 'ball of ****' fifty if it does get too dark !

Anyone have any experiences between 430EX Vs 580EX ?

Already have a 430, was wondering about investing in a 580 aswell ?

I have the 580ex and find it great. Very good in low light, for churches and such, but also good for fill-in light outdoors. Great speed and response from it.
