    Hi,

I've tried to connect my laptop to my TV via one of the normal VGA (?) cables at the back of the laptop/tv. This worked fine on the Samsung TV downstairs (different model). When I try to do this with my TV, it just goes into standby mode with the power light flicking on and off indefinitely. I have no idea what the issue here could be and the manual isn't much help..

When I remove the cable from the laptop it says "check your signal cable" on the tv when the picture returns!?

Any advice from the more learned here would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Samsung TV's operate as PC monitors when using the VGA connection so when no cable connection is detected it gives the "no signal" message and when a cable is connected but the PC is powered off or in standby the display goes into it's own standby mode.

The problem with the laptop is probably that is not setup & sending the signal to the screen, what I would suggest is run through the multi-display setup for your graphics card again so it properly detects the screen.

But even though it works on the TV downstairs with no changed settings and the same cable?

    Thanks for the response.

Windows isn't "dumb" about displays it can tell the difference between one from another because of what's called the EDID embedded in the TV VGA signal.

I'm guessing that the multi display has been setup for the TV down stairs and that running the multi-display wizard again and telling to re-detect the display should make it pick up the TV upstairs.
