The interesting frequency thread

To get the ball rolling for the scanners among us, and as suggested by Gyppo, this thread is for interesting frequencies that may be found while listening in on the bands:

As previously stated in the charter, no emergency service (including Gardai) frequencies can be published on this site, nor can third party information that may be overheard, be passed on. Discussion of other frequencies is allowable, but in the absence of correction, programming them into scanning receivers is not...

Please provide a link to any channel information you post. The reason for this is to ensure that such frequencies are in the public domain. The purpose of this thread being to keep them in one place for the use of forum participants.

I'll start things off with Irish ATC frequencies from here, and apologies in advance for the crap formatting, the only way around which is to post the tables as word attachments...

RoundyMooney, there are no 28Mhz frequencies in any CB band.

Roundy, that "International CB Channels" is a lie.
Those are the frequencies a particular flavour of CB rig does. Long Communications are not a reliable source of info. I suspect that is from a rig they used to sell.

I'll repost the UK, EU, USA and Irish Church CB channels again (I did post them before)

The highest CB related channel anywhere is just below 28MHz.

There are indeed (probabily illegal everywhere) rigs that have CB on the label and do from below 26MHz to above 28MHz. I have a radio for Amateur use that does 100KHz to 29.999MHz with a +/- 1.2KHz variable adjustment option. It's legal as long as I don't use it for CB and only transmit in my licensed bands.

The Ham/Experimenter/Amateur bands vary slightly from country to country.

The PMR frequencies will work on non PMR scanners by just selecting the nearest channel. You don't need the exact 446MHz channel

Ch 37, used by Yacht clubs/marinas 157.850MHz and can be fairly active.

254.100 wbfm with an aerial pointing at the sky, R Bogota-colombia kind of piggybacked onto a us milsat by ehm co-incidence, also a lot of nbfm russian phones around 269mhz in that range too. check out Paul J Marsh page about satellite reception. www.uhf-satcom.com

    Beacons on VHF / UHF

put in your maidenhead locator to see distance and bearings from your house

    http://www.mmmonvhf.de/bcn.php

    50MHz, 144MHz, 430MHz and 1.2GHz.

I can often hear the Ballycastle in N.I. and the Cornwall Beacons on 2m.

On 6m, the 50.050 beacon on Hill of Allen can be received with a Mobile Whip in the car around edge of Limerick City.

    See also
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maidenhead_Locator_System

Though France is much closer, it's more likely you can hear Spanish VHF (in Ireland) as it's entirely a seapath.

Beacons are good for comparing aerials and receivers, but primarily to detect & monitor propagation.

Was scanning through, as you do...

    452.600 MHz

What sounds like Arabic preaching of some sort. The dude "spreading the good word" got quite emotional at times to say the least. I have a recording of it if anyone is interested.

It didn't sound like a harmonic, but then again. Interesting all the same.

Have a listen on 255.550mhz FM.This is the downlink from a US military satellite, which has been hijacked by illegal users for their own world-wide 2 way communication system.Theres even a radio station using it,see here-

    http://www.musicsrc.com/video/Satcom+Pirates+-+255.550mhz+FM.php?id=vQe2oadzixM

The SATCOM system consists of a number of geo-stationary satellites above the earth created by the US military for two way communications. The pirates are mainly from Russia or south America, but english can be heard. The satellite in the chain which we can hear in Ireland is off the west coast over the atlantic.

Expect S7+ signals on modest equipment!!

Are limerick fire gone tetra? Haven't heard anything in weeks.

It would appear that Limerick and Clare have moved over... Dublin of course are still analog for moment with a view to moving over by the end of Q1 of 2019.

Regional call-signs are being gradually phased in for Dublin stations to bring them into line with stations countrywide who use these call-signs already.

Interesting listening is all but gone these days. Some marine still worth listening to but living in limerick you don't hear it very often. Must look at the HF bands and suss out an antenna for the handheld. Thanks
