Build your own bass?

    Yo!

Whats the craic with building your own bass? You cant just build your own p-bass and decal fender on it - is there a way to get the real parts and have it decaled?

The time has come to get ANOTHER Intrument, im starting to lose count at this stage but i think it would be a cool idea to commemorate each band i play in with an instrument. I've only really been in one real serious band(im still in it), and im thinking maybe i want to do a complete custom job on it, and showing it to the lads as a surprise when its done.

I am considering building a p-bass, and get the bands logo somewhere on the back end of the body - clean and tidy looking, nothing OTT. One thing i really like on the fender jaguar bass is the way they match the head of the bass to the body paint, and i would like to incorporate that in the p-bass. Silver writing, silver logo, black body and head. I know its not really original, but it would be a little different that the norm. I would also like a real bright and shiney neck, and something nice for the fret dot thingies :]

All the hardware would have to be prestine, and i would like it to be well rounded... maybe even chunky?

As far as pickups go, i need a real warm tone that gets a sharp delivery when the strings are hit (make sense?)

I've been looking on warmoth, the prices are laughable, seems totally doable. At the moment i have about 700 euroes saved up. I was going to get the jaguar, but im getting an itch for this idea i've been playing with for a while now

    Any input would be sweet!

    Cheers

You've basically described a Fender Aerodyne bass - the absolute schnizz in my opinion.

Yup. The Aerodyne ticks them boxes.

This one is disgustingly cheap at €245 on the u-box. Add €100 for shipping, maybe €70 in import taxes.

Save yourself the grief of the build and have money to spare :)

Having said that, the Jag bass is supposed to be superb. Even Pino Palladino is using one touring with the Who instead of his usual vintage P basses.

    that red is just spectacular.

I've played the jazz bass, very versatile sound, and the action is amazing. When it comes down to feel, it does feel the same as the p-bass im borrowing at the moment.

    That bass just looks class.

Just select bass and click search, it should be in the first page.

I bought a jaguar on a trip to New York a few weeks ago, Its mainly for my sons' use but since it got here my musicman sterling has hardly been out of the case. The finish on this bass is amazing, photos just dont do it justice and the range of sounds is phenomenal, you could spend hours trying out all the combinations. Buying the bass and a hard case cost just under 500 euro. Downside was getting it and a gretsch electromatic through customs screwed me for 300 euro. Still made a great saving though

i got a thing against jap sites... Rekon the build on that base is good? It cant be quality for that price... 39,800.00 JPY = 243.902 EUR

Whats the delivery time with orders from the otherside of the sphere? has anyone ever done it?
