God of War II question

So I'm playing away on this, and I'm a little confused by the section I got through yesterday:
From the Temple of Lakhesis (sp?), after fighting my way around, I manged to get to the Steeds of Time. After unbuckling them, or whatever that was, there was a frankly fantastic piece of animation. However, I was under the impression that they were going to bring me across to the island, but apparently not, I just had to go back along the chain I'd taken to get out there in the first place.
Can more intelligent people than I explain what happened there?

The two islands were connected by a chain, by releasing the steeds they ran forward dragging the out of reach island close to the one that you were on.

But when I ran along the length of the chain again I ended up back in the Temple of Lakhesis, where I came from?
This is an interesting thread for people who don't want to be spoiled :p

Yup I'm bored of spoilers now. You jump over to the island after that.

God of War does have you running back to areas quite a bit but there usually a good reason.
