    Hi
I have to go for a minor operation in about 2 weeks and after will be unable to work for a 2 week recovery period.

Am I entitled to receive pay during this period?

    Any advice appreciated.

You'll get social welfare after three days, but the company isn't obliged to pay you anything for sick leave.

The answer here is that it very much depends on the company. There is no legal requirement for a company to pay you for sick leave. Some companies (thankfully not most) take this literally while others offer long term illness pay, etc. Most who offer sick pay are probably in the middle with schemes that can cover a short/medium period of illness. It very much depends on the individual employer so you should talk to your manager or HR.

You are probably entitled to illness benefit (a social welfare payment) and in some cases employers who offer full sick pay require that employees claim it and reimburse it to them to cover some of the costs of their sick pay.
