So what's with all the out-of-place threads in AH?

    Garda-with-Speed-gun-thread (Motors)

    Lazy-drivers-thread (Motors)

    Global-warming-threads (Weather or Science)

    Politics threads (Politics)

    Learning-to-drive-thread (Motors)

    How about a learning-to-post-thread? :D

Can't we just get back to the usual inane AH stuff? :p

    Why the out-of-place-threads? 45 votes

Says someone who only registered in Jan '07 ...

The people who post regional issues in AH instead of that specific regions forum is a lot bigger one though

Yes,but I don't make threads in the wrong area and I know how to use a forum.

When you click on the AH thread does it not say underneath "All things non-work related."? I believe some of the subjects above are non work related?

Actually I think one or two of those should belong in a region forum.

Well, what do you think the other fora are for?

I think it's just a noob thing. A lot of these posts are from less than 100 posters. Amazingly they found AH first somehow.

What I can't get is the amount of Dub "Where is this/that street" posts here. Should be evident they go in the Dub forum.

People are generally looking for a quick reply or a lot of replies I think.

there is a forum on this board for almost everything. IF you took everything out of AH that could be put in another forum, what would be put in AH? Maybe the solution is to close AH, no need for it, surely?

    Big time!
What do i care about a pickpocketing woman on connell bridge? (still in AH btw)
    [/rant]

This is what cracks me up about deh muckahs..the fact that the pickpocketing took place on O'Connell bridge is entirely incidental but as soon as our country cousins see dublin mentioned, the ould chip on the shoulder begins acting up and they start moaning. Silly regionals :)

No, the difference about AH is as much about the looseness of the rules as its topic. This is a general forum where people can talk **** with each other basically and not have to worry about the rules as much as in other forums where it's stricter and (usually) the discussions have a more serious tone.

    If that makes sense.

I agree that a pick pocket thread could have been in any city in Ireland but why would you imply that we are jealous? As a "muckah" I'm quite happy thank you very much.

you just answered your own question. It has nothing to do with any of the above. Rather a conscious decision by the poster to post a thread in a section which will get the most traffic.

Shouldn't this thread be in Feedback?

    :D

It's probably a combination of all of the above that is the cause of so many incorrectly placed threads.

so why are people moaning about threads being here and not other forums? Maybe the people who posted the threads in here wanted a more laid back approach within their threads.

Because this is a general forum and specific threads that aren't "general" in their appeal shouldn't be here. There will be some overlap but usually if you look through the threads on here they wouldn't quite fit anywhere else.

    For example:

Starting a thread looking for recommendations for a good hotel in London isn't ok and should be in Travel/Holidays but starting a thread discussing travel in general (in that is it a good thing for people to do) would be alright.

99% of the time common sense should tell you whether a thread should or shouldn't be posted here.

Because some people tire of the same old sarky topics and try to spice things up. If someone wants to reach out to the general demographics, opposed to one individual group of people - they will post where the general demographics are based, in this case - AH.

Deal with it. It's not going to ruin your day is it?
