Can't believe you left out Ong Bak!

There are so many good ones I was bound to leave a few out. Ong Bak Rules!! I was trying for as wide a variety as possible with films by most well known martial actors. You can always vote in others.

Yeah Jaysus how could you leave out the best...Ong Bak.Enter the Dragon is a Classic though and still rules to this day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,729 ✭✭✭Pride Fighter

Ong Bak isnt Tony Jaa's best. Warrior King is far superior.

The Warrior King, another Tony Jaa one was pretty cool too. Zatiochi the re-release was very well done.

On a sub note bravo seem to have had a few "classics" on lately. If anyone happened to catch American Ninja 2 :D

When we look at enter the dragon the technique displayed by bruce lee is so effortlessly technically advanced compared to everyone else that he looks like he could be popped straight into any modern jet li movie and hold his own...everyone else looks like they are of that time...

Now taking the stand out skills of bruce lee out and is that movie still a classic - hard to judge...the story hasn't aged...but the language...'What you know about this Han CAT!!!?' and the clothing certianly have...

So are we judging the best martial arts movie based purely on fighting or on character development, skills displayed, fight sequences and plot?

If we judge by this criteria we really do get into the intricies of our own prefferred fighting styles and persona....and then we can truly find out what is our own best martial arts movie...

Sorry to be a dullard guys and dolls but movies and ma are my two biggest loves outside of my family and many imaginary friends and of course the king of the little people.....

Ong Bak isnt Tony Jaa's best. Warrior King is far superior.

I can't believe someone actually likes Warrior King better than Ong Bak. While the fight in the temple with the capoeira guy and the sword fighter was brilliant, the rest of the film was just a rehash of Ong Bak, but with no heart, stupid sound effects (the scene near the end where he fights all those guys and starts breaking bones, its sounds like someone jumping on a bag of cornflakes with all the crunching) and three wrestlers tossing a baby elephant (one of the weirdest things i have ever seen).

Besides the best martial arts film is Kung Fu Hustle :D Hilarious!

DAMN STRAIGHT! That movie is one of the funniest things Ive ever seen. Ok, crouching tiger hidden dragon was funny too, but only because it was so very bad. So very very bad.

three wrestlers tossing a baby elephant
WOAH!!! careful how you say that one Hammill!!!

Tony Jaa is only establishing himself as a star. I just forgot to mention him. As for warrior king lacking heart I really felt for the elephants. Elephants rule!!!

I'd agree 100% with this... they had a bigger budget and spent the money in the wrong places in my opinion... Those rollerblade punks aswell was very rumble in the bronx... not cool!

I really liked Jet li in Hero, that was amazing. Game of Death was great too.

Too bad I've never heard of most of the films in the poll, I guess I've no knowledge about martial cinema:rolleyes: :p

If people have not heard of the films watch them on the internet or something. There are so many great ones the ones I put up are all great. Suggest more great ones. In a limited poll it is impossible to put up all the great ones so if your fav film is not there say it in a thread.

    Loz

Are you referring to the Remo Williams series of films?

Apparently, no one has ever seen, "The Adventures of Ozzie Twitely." A martial arts masterpiece from the 1970's.

I would have voted for "Enter the Dragon", because it is a great film. But I voted Others, because when I was young a film that really caught me eye was

    Blind Fury (Rutger Hauer)

Mel gibsons fight scenes in lethal weapon 1, especially the end scene. I think one of the choreographers was a Gracie. Finished Garey Busey with triangle from what i can remember and that was back in the late 80's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,993 ✭✭✭Trippie

Ninja in the dragon's den is an old 80's film and probably has the best fight scene iv ever seen when the two boys go at each on stilts and still manage to pull of the moves effortlessly

Based on the list alone I have to say Best of the Best... love the movie. Personal favourite of mine for years! After that then there is of course:-

    Ong Bak
    Unleashed
    Fearless
    Kickboxer

Will toss a female into this male film fest! "Asumi" made sushi out of an entire village of bad blokes with her sword.*

*Although I had to laugh at the fact that she never had a dull blade, even after chopping down a tower in the village.

I was looking at the fatal deviation poster. Its a brilliant film but I remember no hot babe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭Kenpo

I actually paid to see Fatal Deviation at the Navan film festival.

You're not a proper martial artist if you haven't see it!

    My Fav Martial Arts films:
No Retreat, No Surrender Prt 3
    Shootfighter
Game of Death (only Bruce's 20 mins)
    Out for Justice
Best of the Best (1 and 2)
    Mission of Justice

And of course The Perfect Weapon (can't beat seeing Kenpo on-screen).

Wheels on Meals would be my all time favourite.

The fight near the end between Jackie Chan and Benny Urquidez is amazing...

I love the shot where Urquidez blows out a bunch of candles with the speed of his kick.
