Im thinking about solar domestic hot water and wondering what the best type of storage cylinder to use. do i take out my old (110 litre) cylinder and replace or do i go for a seperate cylinder, perhaps in the roofspace? Any one with experience in this?

I've put in solar recently and installed a 220l dual coil cylinder.
Not 100% sure of the capacity, but dual coil is a must afaik

For Solar you really need to go as big as possible for instance I would recommend 300l at a minimum.
I have a 500l myself and find it good for holding heat.
With Solar you need to be able to hold more than a normally heated tank.
I have only had to use immersion heating for about 3 days in the last month!

Depending on how many people are using the house you should bank 50lt per person per day, Dual or triple coil Copper Solar Cylinders that are pre insulated are the best. There is a place where you can get them made to order so they can retrofit into your existing hot press. we use 300lt one for 4 people house with 2 power showers, bath. Same as CJH we only had the back up heater on for 2 days in the last six weeks.
