When you use/take a lot of advice from this board would you ever feel like you had to encourage people(such as friends) to contribute more or if you are just a reader/browser do you ever feel the need to contribute....
Or do you just like to take take take.:D
The reason I started this thread is I’d like to see certain people's reasons for posting more often after joining so early and also why noobs post so frequently as in (is it because of guilt or a discluded feeling)
As for me I was reading so much I felt I had to contribute
Although as the last year and half have went I have often gotten the feeling some people wish I was an shrewd observer

if i'm mentioning something i read on boards, i'd often have to explain what boards is, A few friends have signed up since, No Huge posters, but i know one or two who read boards almost everyday

I'd say it's cause they want recognition and a higher post count. They don't want to be seen as noobs and they want to be part of the big community. Changes over time when the realise how noobish their attitude is looking back.

Noobs post lots because the debates on abortion/does-she-like-me/Irish-women-are-so-full-of-it/whatever are new to them and they get all excited and so on.

Whereas us seasoned users just go "Pfffft. Yawn. Been there, done that" etc

many users like to feel included and feel as if they are in some way contributing to something bigger.
they also like the feeling of being recognised as a contributor.

recognition is one of the most powerful and rewarding feelings there is.
i post becuase sometimes i feel i have a point to make, or i have something to add.
sometimes i post just for the hell of it.

many people, myself included, post becuase they just like the attention they get. although, hopefully in time, that disappates. the attention whore types dont tend to last long. CSG, you would be one of the attention whore types, but i have to be honest, i dont bother reading most of your posts anymore, becuase of the drivel you used to post, mostly about your sexploits.

thats the problem with posting a lot without actually saying nything. people tend to just not read what you say. and sometimes, you just dont feel like posting what you feel, becuase you hve seen the argument a dozen times before. i can tell you the outcome of most of the threads on this forum within half a dozen posts.
which is why these days, i just wait for them to come to their natural conclusion, and then just close them :)

savesme the bother of actually having to engage in pointless tit for tat arguments. :)

I suppose I fall into the "Take Take Take" catagory. Just loot at my post count. I pretty much browse Boards every day but rarely feel the need or the inclination to post (so this is very out of character for me:) ).

If someone has asked a question and I can help, I post.
If I have an opinion and no one else has voiced that opinion yet, I might post.
I try not to post stuff that's been posted before and I don't feel the need to post in every thread.

I like the fact that Boards is generally welcoming to everyone. Whether you're new or a regular or not. Most people won't have seen me post before but I use Boards for info, entertainment, to relax and to kill time in work not to get a "reputation". (Not that there's anything wrong with that of course :D )

Edit: Although this thread has now got me thinking that maybe I should contribute a little more so you may see me around a bit more often. I'll try to keep it relevant though :)

Everyone is a noob at some point. We all come here for different reasons. Sometimes those reasons change if we stick around? Some get bored with boards and drift off, others interact just like at the pub or club or uni SOC? Some are more chatty (B!ue hides!) while others look more than post. My favourite place to hang out is TCN cause the craic, and they don't give a Star*ucks about post count there.

I've been a member for ages but my post count is quite low, only really starting posting with any regularity in the last few weeks (started a not too stressful job) but i used always just browse... i think one thing about post count is that sometimes you get the impression (rightfully or wrongly) that the guy with 10,000 is far more knowledgeable than the guy with 50...

Although i have noticed from time to time that in some of the forums there is an elitest thing, a guy might ask a question, and 10 replies would be telling him that the answer was supplied if he had only searched in a different forum or 10 pages down the list, they never seem to take into account that the guy posting might have posted only once or twice before... Then eventually some wise sage with 8million and 2 posts will utter the grand old answer he needed
    noob...
    which is quite crappy really..

Edit: Just re-read my post, it sounds kinda negative, about 90% of people on boards are sound out and stuff, its only a few bad eggs i've noticed...
