I wouldn't spend a whole week there, 4 days is plenty. Perhaps 4 days in Rome and 3 in Florence would be better use of your time.

EDIT: Don't bother with packages, book it yourself. www.venere.com is a great site for hotels in European cities. www.hotels.com and www.tripadvisor.ie are very good as well. Ryanair and Aer Lingus fly to Italy.

    FYI

Ryanair's Rome airport is actually closer to the city centre than the main airport (15km vs 30km), although it's not as well connected. An exception to the Ryanair rule.

There is a (Terravision??) bus connection that meets every Ryanair flight. I think it is about a 40 min journey into the city centre.
