NTL farce

i was cut off from the basic ntl cable package today despite paying the bill 2 weeks ago. when i rang them to find out how this occured i was'nt given any satisfaction. i am now so angry i am simply going to switch to a basic sky digital package. the sky website is very ambiguous with regards to the price of the basic package. does anyone know how much it is or if there is a better alternative to ntl or indeed sky.

Sky packages start from €21.50 pm. You have to sign a 1 year contract. If you cancel after the year you can keep the dish and box to use for BBC ,ITV and other FTA channels. Put up an aerial(s) for Irish terrestrial channels or tune your TV directly to the NTL analogue feed.

I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Can you cancel the basic subscription from Sky after a year and get the free to air channels but continue paying the 15 Euro a month for Sky+? I'm not interested in the movie channels or sport.

I read a few posts a while back saying that there was talk of Sky removing the monthly fee for Sky+. Did anybody hear that?

sky have packages with no movies and sport

you will get this for about €20 a month for 1 year, after that you cancel, lose channels including all Irish ones but the box will still pick up all BBC ITV Film Four News Channels etc

I have looked at the terms and conditions but I haven't been able to find anything related to Sky+ when the 12 months is up.

Can I cancel the basic package (lose irish channels etc) but still use Sky+ for the fta and ftv?

it will be banjaxed once you are out of contract , get a freeview pvr and pay sky nothing

Can you get the same features as Sky+ i.e. dual tuner and recording series from the EPG?

FTA epg programme planning is a bit spotty unlike the sky epg which is very up to date

other than that they work fine , you can also use a sat pc card and record to your pc hd and then stream across the house with Mediaportal

Current Sky promotion is free SkySports and Sky Movies for 3 months with any package (what they don't say is that you must ring to cancel the Sports and Movies before the promotion period ends, otherwise you'll be paying for these premium channels after the promo)

From Wednesday the promotion will change: the new offer is 2 months half-price on any package.
