    Hey all,
Just a bit of warning to all who have a plasma, be very careful of watching RTE as their logos is fixed and no semi-transparent like BBC3/SKY1 etc so has a huge risk of causing burnin.

From what i have read, plasma screens sold over the last couple of years normally include many measures to insure against burn in and are now as likely to suffer the effects of burn in as CRT screens.

It may be worth reading up on this a bit more.

Yeah, most plasma's now have an anti-burnin measure built-in, though you might need to activate the feature in the menu. ONe feature is pixel shifting the picture ever so slightly.

Here is a link that may be worth a look:

Id like to see a Plasma owner bring a claim against RTE

    That would be interesting

Anti burn in won't work. Also you will get letterbox burn in
Watch 30% 4:3 TV and the black bars at side are brighter on 16:9

Watch a lot of 2.35:1 films and you will have two brighter strips along top & bottom.

But LCDs burn in too! Just slower. I know 4 used for Ordering Status screens and no-one believed me till they fed a TV picture and saw the burnin of the Windows GUI. Of course in that situation CRT burns in faster.

OLED burn in too!!! Esp the blue!

Only DLP is immune, but not if it has a stripe filter.

Sunlight or bright light on one part of LCD will fade the colour filter :(

This isn't a serious suggestion really, but since RTE don't know how to place the DOG so that it's fully visible in 4:3 and 16:9 mode (unlike TG4 and all the UK channels, and even channels in Kazakhstan) you could switch your receiver to 4:3 when watching RTE, and chop off half of the DOG.

See attached image.. the ONE gets chopped of in 4:3 (Sky, DTT etc).

Yeah they don't seem to enforce the 4:3 safe zone at all.
