I've been following up on SSDs:

Much more expensive than an external USB disk, but you can just put a stack of these in your camera or laptop bag. They're OS independent and show up as mass storage, so they should work fine under all major OS'

Eh, of course it means laying down something like a thousand dollars for 100gb storage, but would it be worthwhile for portability?

I'm going to say 'definitely not'. Bog standard portable storage device with a 60gb hard drive has worked perfectly for me for the past couple of years. I think all in that was only something like 200 euro back when hard drives were a bit more expensive than they are now.

Most USB memory systems arent OS based as they work with both. I agree with Rymus that there are much cheaper options.

Lacie seem to be the smallest (that I have seen lately) and are fairly inexpensive too.

It's incidently an actual use for the expresscard slot.

Never actually heard of an expresscard slot. Oh well. My age catching up with me!
