    Thursday May 10th at Wax

Matthew Dear aka Audion [Ghostly International - USA]
    Eddie Brennan [Electric City]

    Admission - e12 / e10` with flyer / members.

This Thursday sees us debut one of the hottest artists in techno right now. Matthew Dear a.k.a. Audion (and False and Jabberjaw) has been releasing dynamite records over the past few years that have rocked floors worldwide. A series of releases under his own name from 2000 on Michigan's Spectral Sound saw Mr. Dear's unique take on house and techno get noticed by all the fly DJs like Villalobos, Hawtin and Vath. In 2004 he introduced his Audion project and tracks like Kisses, Just F*cking and Mouth to Mouth have seen Matthew become one of the most in-demand remixers and producers around with the next bomb Noiser/Fred's Bells ready to drop in May - sure to gown a storm when played this night. He's taken the editing blades to tracks like Roman Flugel's 'Geht's Noch', Claude Von Stroke's 'Who's Afraid of Detroit' and Hot Chip's 'No Fit State'. With genre-crossing releases as Jabberjaw on Perlon and False while on Plus 8 & M-Nus, Matthew Dear keeps quantity on a par with quality. We can't wait to have the man come visit the Electric City at Wax, it's sure to be a legendary night. Support comes from Eddie 'Sling-shot' Brennan, Electric City resident and long-time champion of Dear's sound.

    Current Releases:

Mathew Dear - Deserter (Ghostly International) - Since appearing at the decade's beginning, Matthew Dear has been championed as one of North America's brightest new musical talents. His 2003 debut album, Leave Luck To Heaven, garnered unequivocal praise internationally for its paring of icy beats and vocals. In the period since, Dear has conquered the international techno scene, under the alias of Audion, with incessant touring and the release of club hits like the explosive "Mouth To Mouth." With his new 10" single, "Deserter," and the forthcoming Asa Breed LP, Dear works again under his birth name to combine his atmospheric production with distinctive vocals to craft a sophisticated take on avant-pop. "Deserter" is a moody, robust and elegant marriage of beats and melody, including his best lyricism to date. It's dawn music, submerged in a warm gauze of synths and anchored by a relentless backbeat. The exclusive "You Know What I Would Do" hits the dance vibe that Dear is known for with a Prince-esque minimalism and funk, while the flip side hosts Four Tet's dreamy reinterpretation of "Deserter," owing as much to classic Detroit techno as it does to Balearic Island classics.

Matthew Dear – Asa Breed (Ghostly International)- Matthew Dear's Asa Breed finds the Detroitbased electronic artist achieving new artistic heights – it's more robust, more accessible, and yet still undeniably Matthew Dear. Incorporating his uniquely crafted textures alongside rhythmic influences from Brian Eno & David Byrne's classic My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, plus a lyrical storytelling element from his Texas upbringing, Asa Breed is a completely unique musical experience. Since his debut at the decade's beginning, Matthew Dear has been championed as North America's brightest new electronic talent. His 2003 debut, Leave Luck To Heaven, garnered unequivocal praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, Spin and Entertainment Weekly, and in the period since, Dear has conquered the international techno scene under the alias of Audion. But when it came time to return to his roots, there was only one path to take. With each track on this album, Dear tells a unique story about life and human relationships with his rich baritone voice and fusion of live and electronic instruments. In sum, Asa Breed represents a new feeling and a more expansive look into the psyche of an artist coming into his own.
