Another boring 'what lens thread'...

I was about to buy the Sigma 105mm macro, but then saw the Nikon 60mm f/2.8 D for roughly the same price. Considering I'm buying it for my D70s, would it be better to go for a Nikon rather than a sigma?

Any feed back would be deadly! Thanks!

PS. Does the 'D' mean that it is only suitable for dSLRs? If thats the case, I might get the sigma, as I still use film quite a lot (f90x)

    This link might help http://www.bythom.com/lensacronyms.htm

The D lenses have an aperture ring as opposed to the G lenses which do not. This is the only major difference between the 2 as far as I am aware.

As far as I can see the Sigma 105 Macro lens your looking at is more digital specific (it says on the Sigma wesite its optimised for digital cameras). It should still work on your 35mm but may not produce quite as good images.

Again the best thing to do would be to try one out in a shop before you buy.

I've been looking at that sigma (canon mount) and a few people have said that the autofocus is a little bit slow and noisy and they have missed focus because of it... not sure what the nikon equivalent is like though.

I had a Sigma 70-300, Canon fit, it was slow & noisy but having being bought as a macro lens, speed wasn't vital.
The Canon 75-300 is far superior but this is also reflected in the price.

I think the question you need to ask yourself is, does the Nikon meet your needs? If so, then go for it!
