I know some won't rent to under 25's. You will need a credit card. I'm not sure if the Irish license is OK, it wasn't a few years ago. You had to apply for an international license which meant paying £10 for a slip of paper. No idea how much it would be in € today!

I was in the states in august and had no problem renting with a irish drivers licence. I'm over 25 though. Best bet would be to ring or email a few of the larger ones to see what they require. You may even they list it on their websites. You can also get quotes online for all the major rental agencies.

You DO NOT need an int'l DL.

Start making phone calls to rental cos. You need to get the scoop on U25 rentals. It can be v expensive.

Wrong. Credit card is probably needed but you don't need an international drivers licence.

Eh, why don't you pick up the phone and get the info from the people who would actually rent you a car?? Perhaps they'd know?

A word of advice: don't mention 'Irish licence'. Use the term 'European licence'.

No - I've lived there and managed fine on my Irish licence while renting a car. Never had a problem.

i will also confirm that you will NOT need an idp,i have been stopped by the cops with an irish licence there a few times and never had a single problem.could never get used to them catching me going a bit too fast when they were driving twords me :(

rental agencies dont have a problem with the irish licence either.

No need for an International license.

I'm not really sure what value an International License is to an Irish person is anyway, I think they are only needed if your 'home' license is not written in English.

On the u25 thing, it differs from company to company and laws in different states have a bearing on it also.
Check with the rental companies and their policy in the state you are going with. Some all u25s with a hefty surcharge

With all aspects of American life laws differ between states so what works in NY does not necessarily work in CA
