The gf was given one of these as a present, told her I'd set it up. Im an ipod man myself so have no clue about these.

Installed the software and then I was getting a message saying my computer wasn't detecting the player. Had a scout around a few forums and there seems to be some issue regarding Playforsure and Media Player 11 so I d/l that and have reinstalled the software, still not detecting. Done a troubleshooting exercise on the creative site, no joy there. It was telling me to make sure my player is charged, which I cant, as it won't turn on since I took it out of the box. Tried to go on from there but it wasn't being recognised in devices tab in system.

    Any ideas?

I had a problem with it being recognised on one of the computers I was using it on. I had to go to the devices manager, it was in hidden devices I think. Then I had to click properties and get the drivers for it. The drivers were installed with software but Windows wasn't putting two and two together somehow. It worked fine after I did that, but as you can tell my memory of exactly how I solved it isn't perfect.

There are some compatibility issues with windows media player 11 I think, it's best to use windows media 10 with it, which they give you on the installation cd.

The creative forums are you best bet for finding a solution, that's how I found mine.

Same here. Left it plugged into the computer for around the 30min to 1 hour mark.

Apparently the players can be in the box for so long that the battery goes completely dead.

i should be getting a "battery charging" icon on the screen then, no?

You should get the charging icon on the screen even when it's turned off.

I'm not sure if it's any further help to you - you've probably done this already - but i know when i uninstalled wmp 11, this page was useful. It wasn't until i removed the three different parts of wmp 11 that my zen was detected...

Like the previous posters have said, you need to leave it charging on USB for at least an hour before it gets to minimum charge to light up the screen. You can confirm that it is charging by checking the flashing blue light which lights up on the "on-off" switch when it is being charged.

After an hour or so of charging the "charging" picture will show on the screen.

I've bought two Zen vision M's and both appeared to be DOA until they had been charged for 2 hours.

    Cheers
    Mike

Actually i have the exact same problem, My Desktop refuses to recognise my player it's extremely annoying:mad: . it's not the player as it connects to my laptop just fine.
Any advice on this would be great,

p.s: the player is fully charged when connecting to the desktop so it's not the battery on the player:confused:

the player doesn't charge when connected to the desktop either* despite all hardware being A okay with the usb ports

Windows never recognised the device once........

The sound quality was excellent for the 2 minutes i got from it.

If it only played for a few minutes maybe it wasn't charged up enough?
I'd leave it charging overnight if I were you

    Yes, you should.

I got mine last week, sussed out there was a problem with it charging and being detected.

download the latest firmware update from the creative website. follow the instructions...

    http://ie.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/

you don't say whether you got the 30gig or 60gig versions, they have different firmware. so i've posted the link for the main downloads page, you should select what device you have.
Make sure you download the european firmware.

Basically what you should do is, plug your ZVM into the mains (hopefully you have the power adaptor) and also plug it into your computer via usb. As its not being detected by your pc, you're not getting any power from the usb socket.

once the firmware is installed, your ZVM will reboot and you can plug it out of the mains. There should be no problems then.

Let me know if this works ok for you! :)

    Cheers,

    Joe Robot

Sorry, don't have time to read all the other posts for if this has already been
    suggested then sorry!

When you buy the Vision M, the battery is well and truly dead. It doesn't even
have enough power to turn on ANY battery indicator when its first charging.
The PC can't detect it as a result, but it will charge even though there's no
    indicator.
So what I did was for mine was plug it into a free powered usb port and left it there for about 10-14 hours. This was the same for the Vision Vplus as well.
Also, I might sure why, but the instructions give a warning NOT to connect the
zen to the PC until you have installed the drivers. This could also be whats wrong.
Hope this helps. Keep messin with it, believe me its worth it.

You are going to want to see what is going on in the device manager of windows. Right click on MY COMPUTER and select PROPERTIES. Then select HARDWARE tab and then DEVICE MANAGER. Now look (while the unit is not plugged in) if there are any device conflicts (yellow exclamation points). If there are, click on it and then REMOVE it using the REMOVE button. If it prompts you to restart the computer select NO unless there are no other devices to remove. If there are not, then go ahead and restart. If it doesn't prompt you then no problem. Click OK and then OK to get out of there and restart.

Once you have restarted go back in to the DEVICE MANAGER and then while you are in there, PLUG IN YOUR DEVICE. Now you should see the usb device appear and if you are getting three dings then that is telling you that it did not recognize the device.
