Porting number to Blueface

I got Blueface in Janurary when I got Chorus Broadband installed and its been working perfectly since. I had always intended to port my existing eircom number over but never expected it to be so difficult.
When i rang Blueface about it they explained that I had to:
    >Move Calls and Line Rental Back to Eircom
    >Cancel Broadband and ask for all traces of DSL to be removed from my line.
    >Fill out relevant forms and pay €60 fee

So i did all of the above but the problems started when I asked for DSL to be removed from my line. Eircom wouldn't do it because the broadband had been with BT, Rang BT to cancel broadband...it took 14 phone calls,3 letters, 17 emails, a Comreg "investigation" and also a detailed investigation by the Data Protection Commissioners.!
So now finally my broadband has been cancelled but the DSL remains on the line (My modem is still syncing, but internet light off). I rang BT who sent me a registered letter saying they no longer hold the DSL port on the line so they they cannot do anything for me. Rang eircom who said that there was no Broadband service on the line so how would they remove it, I explained to the girl that I didnt have broadband but the DSL was still on the line and it was the dsl that i needed removing to which her response was "EHH? We can't remove DSL from a line without a broadband account"...

So now what do I do? No one will remove DSL from the line and neither will admit the problem as being theirs. My question now is if I submit a port request for my eircom number will it be rejected because of DSL on the line or is it actually that you just can't have active broadband on the line? Please help me if you can, or leave your porting number story, good or bad?, and the outcome you had...

I don't see how DSL can affect your porting effort. When your number is eventually ported, Eircom will cancel/deactivate your line and all of the services carried by it.

In any case, if you aren't being billed for broadband - you don't have broadband. Maybe Blueface are being over cautious by asking to have all traces of DSL removed from your line. You've been told by Eircom/BT that you have no DSL broadband service. That's as far as they accounting system goes so I'd imagine that it won't show up when you do port.

Didn't realise that there was now a €60 for porting. I think there was always a charge but Blueface absorbed it.

Good luck with the port and keep us posted. For what it's worth, my port went smoothly (about 2 years ago).

Thanks for that fatherdougal...you confirmed what I was tinking myself really with regards the whole DSL thing.
Just to let you know I filled out all the forms today and posted them. Wonder how long before I hear anything?

If Blueface submit a porting request to eircom, who's database has a flag on it that says bitstream (read DSL) is on the line the request will fail. Another service that would cause a failure would be WLR with one of the voice players - guess what - eircom charge you for putting in orders that fail not a lot but enough to piss off the competition - well the Ozzies have to get their money back some way......

The only reason you have sync on the line is cos eircom techs haven't removed the cabling from your line to their lineshare equipment and dslam. They've just disabled the port - easy to turn you back on ;-)

If eircom are saying their records show there is no service on the line then the porting should go through as they won't go to the exchange till after the number is ported.

The €60 admin fee is a bit high eircom charge 25 ex vat for the service and Blueface then own the number i.e. if you port away they get paid the 25 euro back so i'd challenge them on that point - do you get the €60 back to give to give to an alternate provider? Me thinks not !!

From my experience when it comes to number porting to Blueface, Blueface themselfs seem to be very helpful to users and in some cases even they've been nice enough to give credit to users even though the fault is all Eircoms.

Eircom on the other hand are a joke when it comes to number porting

My experience too. When I kicked out Eircon two years ago, I had started the long process of porting my old number, but Blueface had allocated me a much "nicer" geographic number. I decided to keep the new number and cancelled the porting process

It's a classic case of the monopolist hanging onto one of the pillars of his monopoly - people don't really want to loose their phone number. Legally Eircon is required to port these days, but in practice it is very difficult / slow
