Threat off nieghbors that they would kill my cats...

I had my band practicing at my house (which we don't do since we've got a place in town to do it, but do to certain circumstances, we had to jam at home). We only played about one song (not particularly loud now) and the neighbor came to the door knocking. I answered and he said:

"Will you ever shut the **** up? It's just noise, you've been playing now for about an hour ." (we'd only played one song at this point)

I said "Sorry for the noise." and "We'd only be a half an hour more." He said "You will ****ing not." Then I replied "When is a good time?" (it being 2 o'clock in the evening, I thought it was ok) he said "No ****ing time."

Then he changed the subject and said "Your cats as well, they're always ****ting and fighting and I'm sick if them. I'll ****ing poison the ****ers." To which I just said "Yeah, yeah." I try not to lose my temper with people no matter what they say. Then he said quite sincerely "Don't be surprised if you find your cats dead, because you'll know it's me."

Should I take this seriously? The guy is an overly aggressive head-case and has done other things over the top in the past, and having told my mother about this she said they (him & the family) were telling her the same things about wanting to kill the cats. 3 of my mates were there so I've got witnesses. One of my mates told me of a case on the radio of a neighbor killing someones cat with the same threat and told me to take notes of what he has done/said. I'm really worried because I really love my cats and if one (or both  ) of then get hurt/killed I am afraid I might take the law into my own hands and do something I might regret. So, should I get the police involved? Or just leave it?

    Thanks,

    Dav

Well, i wouldn't have jammed at home to be honest, and i certainly wouldn't like it if my next door neighbour did... But in saying that, i doubt i'd get pissed off after one song. But be serious, you guys didn't set up and then immediately play one song, you know that's not how it works, you set up, you tune up, lash out a few licks, drumming starts banging away, it's just what you do. So i don't believe that it was 'only' one song.

About the cats, there's not really a lot you can do about it to be honest, just try and forget about it.

ring your local cop shop and ask what they think. not in an official complain way, just asking their opinion. your neighbour sounds like a ****tard. if someone killed one of my pets i would be very very upset.

Yeah that's true, there was pre-jam licks and drums etc. but in term of full on loudness it was only one song.

Hahahaha, that's what I mean, I'm normally an easy going guy but something so sadistic as to kill my little cats can make go green and muscley and make me rip off my t-shirt in pure rage. Rawr!

I don't care what the context is, I do not want violence advocated in this forum. All posters, please obey, or we will ban.

OP, I would recommend a trip to your local Garda station to investigate the situation further.

Yeah, I might just do that.

We only have your side of the story here. Noisy neighbours are incredibly annoying. You should be more considerate in future.

And I seriously doubt he is going to hurt your cats. He was probably just furious from the disturbance, and rightfully so.

Yeah, I mean I don't wanna play innocent, but as I've stated I said sorry, and what would be a good time, I was relaxed and didn't respond to his threats, he was bang out of order.

Dav - wouldn't it have been an idea to clear it with him first?

The very ocasional time I have a band around to practise, I always OK it with the neighbour first.

Getting furious after one disturbance at 2 in the afternoon is hardly fair, if he'd come over and politely asked you guys to keep it down fair enough but his aggression was totally over the top.

Deffo give the guards a call, even if its just a phonecall/enquiry they'll keep a record of it which could come in handy if this thing escalates.

If it was a one-off jam fair enough but if you do it again might be an idea to clear it with your neighbours beforehand.

No, it was definitely once off, as I said we usually jam in town twice a week but we decided to jam at home for a day due to the opportunity and to save a little money. After he went, I did as he said and we turned down completely, drummer went on wire brush, amps really low, didn't need a mic to sing (didn't have one up anyways, only playing a starter song, didn't even get ready). But I'll wait for my mother to return home and we'll go take it up with the gaurds.

Wire brushes? Aaaahhh come on...you're really a speed-death-thrash-metal band aren't ya? (tip: don't stage-dive on your mum's sofa pretending that it's a mosh pit).

What wattage P.A. and amps were you using?

I wouldn't bother with the guards, just call into him later tonight and appear to be really sorry.

Cats come onto my property on a regular basis and piss and **** in the garden. Do yours do that? Do you let them roam freely around the neighbourhood ****ing up your neighbours gardens who may have kids playing amongst your pet's crap?

    If they "disappear", tough.

Nah, we are more 60s 70s rock, we were using 50 watt Marshall at low volume, then after started using our little 5 watt MicroCubes :D

I'd second going to the guards. Even saying I'll kill your cats is pretty out there! In a way the guy was lucky, a lot of people would have left him picking up his teeth after a comment like that. At least then, god forbid anything happens, the police have a record of previous comments.

Cats roam, fact. They come into my garden and crap all over it, i chase them off but thats life. Dogs are liscenced and should not be released, and yet they are all over the street leaving their mess all over and chasing cars. Cats also bury their crap.
Birds also land in my garden and crap... again, its one of those things.

I was upset though when two cats crawled into my garden after having been poisoned (they were after the water in the pond). I got one too a sanctuary and the other died. I found the owner but the little girl was very upset as she loved and cared for it. So it was a case of some ignorant so-and so not giving a damn.

OP: Just phone the gardai and get it on file. They may not do anything, they may come out. The threat to the animals was not related to the music.
it is up to you if you tell the neighbour that his threat was reported, only you can decide if he as mad as to throw a wobbly, be careful though and take somen with you as witness. Record everything.

To be honest, if cats were coming into my garden and shítting all over it on a regular basis, which they are by the way, then I'll do what I have to to stop it happening again.

If you or anyone else want to have cats then fine, have them but keep them out of my garden. I didn't pay €400K to have to go out in my back yard and clean up shít from someone else's pet or 4 pets, on a daily basis or put up with the smell of píss when I'm sitting out in my private back garden in the sun.

I've asked them once to keep them out. You can call me ignorant or an arsehole all you like but there is only one solution to this problem if they come in again.

I remember when I was very young some guy said somethign similar to my father. He lost it instantly and jsut went for this guy, broke both his arms. He had to go to court for it and all but thankfully got away with it. WHen people take the law into their own hands then you have every right to join them.

You are saying that you want to kill cats because of their nature. They cannot be stopped.

Let? Cats? Cats arent let to do anything, they roam on their own free will. They are uncontrollable, unlike ignorance.
