    Ok following situation:

You flop a hand (2 pair +) and you decide to bet it as you think you need to protect it. Turn brings 3 to a flush. Do you bet out here? Do you fold if you are reraised? Do you check/fold to a pot bet, check/call a pot bet? Do you check/raise the flop? Are there other ways to play it?

I've been looking through my PT stats and i'm losing a fortune from early/mid pos. (3 and 2 in PT - playing 6 handed) Somehow after 5k hands i'm winning from both the blinds! I seem to be losing most when I flop/turn the nuts or a strong hand and get outdrawn (or outplayed) on later streets. Yes I should fold more/play less from early positions, that much is a given, but is there a profitable way to play these hands? Check folding every time a scare card lands is hardly the solution.

I try to mix up my play and do all of the above. I've also started to bet with draws and then check raise when they hit but that is always dangerous from early pos. This is online and assuming you haven't that much history against any of your opponents.

    How do others play them?

Its very hard to answer this without some specific examples, ie; how many players in pot, stacks, reads and so on. Why dont you post some hand histories and you can then get analysis on certain situations?

I'm looking for general ideas here. Posting a specific hand history is only good for that hand. There's a lot of possible ways this scenario can play out, that's what I want to discuss. How can we minimise getting bluffed out of a pot, how can we get away from our hand easily when behind, how can we call often enough to make it profitable.

So the scenario is: You're in early position, you flop a set (top set if it helps), the turn brings the flush. You check/bet and your opponent bets/raises pot (or big enough that you don't have odds to call - assume he'll fold to a river bet if the board pairs). You have redraws to a fh but nothing else. Assume stacks are big enough that if it's the bet flop, opponent raises option that we also have at least a 1/2 pot bet to call on the river.
