Hey all, Are all american nightclubs in manhattan operated on the velvet rope policy? i.e. will the ordinary joe soap have to wait for a good while in the line before getting in/getting refused?

Have in been in 2 clubs in New york and they are both stupidly expensive (30 bucks to get in) one as china something off time sq and the other was some random club in Chelsea (i think thats the neighbourhood) Drinks are a rip off inside and full of really posh people inside

Disco bars and the likes are the way to go in NY in my opionion! Pubs are open till 4 so you wont be short of drinking time and there is alot more down to earth crowd!

    Just my 2 cents!

Likewise, head down to a bar like Piano's in the Village, where they're open til four, it's dark and grubby, and the DJ plays til four.

I was in the Marquee at Christmas, (which is surprisingly managed by a schoolmate of mine from Galway). It's a pretty famous club frequented by A listers. The cast party for The Departed was in there. I saw Dennis Rodman and Brandy/Monica (don't know which) in there that night.
To be honest, we did actually skip the queue that night, and got comped a table too, but they weren't holding people back too badly at all I think. Twenty bucks in.

If I were you though, I'd avoid them. It's full of the yound, the rich and the beautiful. Lovely club, incredibly hot women, great music, nobody dancing, everybody coked off their face, and you can't sit down. The beer (none on draught) is **** dear, if you want to sit at a table, you need to approach the hostess and buy two bottles of spirits, which start at $400 each.
We heard Song 2 coming on at the end of the night, so we went out and started dancing like crazy, to find we were the only ones doing it. Everyone else was basically grinding their cocks into anyone they could find. ****ing hell...
And the dress code was sloppy. Quiksilver t shirts and baggy pants, when I went and spent $250 i ndamn Macy's that day to dress up for it. Shirt, jacket, denims and brown leather shoes, adn I was by far the best dressed there.

not an Irish scene at all. Go for the Village!
