Hey - first time poster so dont chew the balls off me...but .....I'm going to US for a couple of weeks and was thinking about buying a PS3 while there - ive been looking at some of the threads but still have a few questions (which i know are probably answered in a million other different threads but i just need to be sure )

1.I gather PS3 games are not regionalised - if i have a US console , games i get here will operate ok ?

    2. PS2 games that i have here prob wont work on the PS3 US console ? Either way i'm not too pushed about this

3.Blu-Ray movies that i get here or rent here will be able to play on the US console.

4.Are there any other gotchas i dont know about ?

5.Would any of ye grab one if you were in the states for a while ?

    1. Games at the minute are region free, but there is a chance that sony will bring in regions for games.

    2. All US PS2 games will work in the machine, no EU PS2 games

    3. Blu-Ray Discs are region coded, so no, you won't be able to switch between regions. For most cases USA discs are cheaper than what you'll find here.

    4. Tax... when returning take it all out of the box, and out of the plastic wrap, so if you are stung for taxes on the way back you can say you brought it from Ireland in the first place and are now returning home with it.

5.If I was heading, and I was going to buy one then yeah I probably would pick one up

    Best of luck

It is my understanding that the console is region free but individual developers can decide to place region coding on their own titles if they so desire.

Definitely get one you will save yourself a good few quid, think I saved about 150 euro. The only thing you got wrong is about the Blu ray. Most are region coded but there is a few exceptions. There is a link somewhere in this section that will tell you what is and isn't coded.Just a word of warning the PS3 is heavy and quite big so remember this when flying home.It will put you at you limit for carry on luggage and airport security was no problem in O Hare.
