The desire to connect your ipod to you car stereo seems perfectly logical - good sound, all your tunes with you, convenience, no cds rattling around the door pockets etc.

As does the next step of having the track names and info readable thru the headset display.

    But :
In the past displaying a radio station only took the quickest of glances (if you needed to at all). With cds, even multichangers, you just went up/down tracks thru 1 to 6 cds.

Scrolling through many (hundreds maybe) cds, playlists, and tracks tho, the temptation is to read the info displayed to find what you're looking for.

But is such information a distraction that could be as dangerous as mobiles, and should it be allowed?

I assume it's just a case of discipline. As in fine if you just leave your iPod play a playlist while you're in the car/play tunes at random. Same way a mobile phone is fine if you have it with you but don't pick it up while you're driving.

But nobody had the discipline not to answer their mobile - even now with the threat of points many still do. Ban mp3 info on headsets before it bcomes standard and accidents start happening?

How about just banning the sale of them as aftermarket or new-car options?

Some will import of course but it would be the rare exception rather than the rule it seems set to become.
