Did you mention to them that you wanted to leave your job? If so, big no-no.

Also, have you done your LC yet?

Have you a safe pass? Having a safe pass is MANDATORY. No two ways around it. Sure, some companies will pay for it, but if you have one, it'll show that you're interested.

Do you have any experience in electrics? If not, I'd advisr you to get some, even a few weekends of the non-paid work.

Finally, its tough around this time of the year, as once the LC is done, the place is going to be flooded with little people like yourself wanting an aprentichip. That or (as many usually do) gotten who they want back in February, and know that they'll have them once the LC ends.

    Hi Duff_Man,

Firstly your off to a very good start as your interested in the subject... you've no idea how important that is... lots of electricians get asked to take on apprentices as a favors to a mates, and the person they get is no more interested in being an electrician, they are just doing it cause their parents want them to..

Read up as much as you can, even them DIY books with wiring in them that you find in woodies, although some of these are to English regs, it's much of a much now..

It also helps to know a bit of the lingo, ie if you get a try out for a few days, and the guy says "can you get me a roll of that 2.5 T&E out of the van", you'll know exactly what he's talking about ;) T&E = Twin and Earth, 2.5mm is the cross sectional area..

You could try look up a place called Designer Electric, i think they are over around finglas cabra, i know they do take on apprentices every now and then...

Also when your sending in a CV, always put a cover letter with it, don't over do it, but tell them how interested you are... or even see if they would give you a try for a week, at no cost to them, if things go well your in :)

Keep up the interest, do a bit of reading up, maybe see if there's any PLC courses available too....

    Keep up the enthusiasm,
    Best of luck with it,
    D

Mercury Engineering would be a good place to get apprenticeship?

I know a few sparks who started there and have done well.
