In case you didn't already know, yesterday Nick Heidfeld drove the infamous Nordschleife in his BMW Sauber F1 car. This was the first time in 31 years a modern F1 car had driven on the track.

A small video of the event can be seen here:

Just a pity this was just a BMW promotional thingy and he wasn't allowed to do a proper, flat-out, record breaking attempt. I'd love to see some F1 team setup their car for optimal performance around the Nordschleife and let a driver really go for it. Be interesting to see what kind of lap time they'd do in a modern F1 car.

Oh, by the way, is it wrong (or just sad? :D )that watching that video gave me a hard-on? ;):D

This is v sweet. 'Super' Nick lights it up round the ring, quickest time was 8 1/2 mins but wasnt allowed to 'push' +didnt go round the karousel banked bit.

MUST SEE FOR ALL PETROLHEADS> :)

Apparently he was running on "demonstration" tyres which generally lap a regular F1 circuit about 10 seconds slower. Niki Lauda (who still holds the F1 record for the Nordschleife) reckons if you pushed it, a modern car wouldn't hold up over the bumps.
