MP3 player questions

    Hey,

I'm looking to purchase a portable music player.

My first plan was to get an Ipod(30G) from America which costs about 180Euro...Is there any problems with this plan, what would happen if it broke? Do I have to get a special Ipod adapter?

I don't know a whole lot about the Music player world, but I keep getting tips about purchasing various models. The most recent was this one
    http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=304539&navAction=jump&navCount=0&id=prod2855107

I am just worried that these less well known models migt have more problems than the IPOD

Also I am worried about the Ipods battery life. Is it reall that poor as they say it is...eg will the battery fail in about a year. I would be using the Ipod quite freqeuntly...bus/studying/gym...say 3 hours+ a day. Does anyone have any experience with the new 5th edition Ipods.

And finally if i do get one, I read that the best way to store Lithium Ion batterys is in a fridge

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery#Guidelines_for_prolonging_Li-ion_battery_life

Is it crazy to store Ipods in a fridge, considering Batery life seems to be their biggest problem

Thanks any help is greatly appreciated

I don't know much about mp3 players, but I would recommend to you either an Iriver or a Creative Zen. I myself have an Iriver N10, this is a discontinued line but also a really good one, I am really happy with it. I did hear that although Ipod was probably one of the first on the market, some of the latest models will only play itunes, so it may not be of much use to you if you have a load of mp3's on your computer! (I may be wrong here, so don't shoot me if I am) Iriver and creative also do flash players and mp4 players aswell, they might be worth checking out too!

You can check out the latest models of iriver and creative on the following web sites...
    www.iriver.eu.com
    www.creative.com

Good luck with your selection :D

    1. If it broke you would not have to send it back to america, it would be repaired over here if it broke within the first year

    2. No AC charger is bundled with the ipod so theres no problem there (ie you'll have to buy the charger seprerately anyway.) The ipod charges via usb from your computer also.

    3. the Meizu m6 is a great DAP (available up to 8gbs) and the only major-ish issue I am aware of is a 1000 file limit, although this is not applicable in real life usage on the 4gb model, also apparently a firmware update is about to be release which will address the limit.
UPDATE Firmware upgrade has just been released: http://www.meizu.com/MeizuMp3LiveUpdate/Firmware/M3/2_0_0_3/M3_T2.003.3.rar

    4. The battery should last +5 years, losing perhaps 40% capacity over that period, My 5g is well over a year old and is going nearly as strong as when i first got it.

    5. I would not advise putting your ipod into the fridge :D

    Other considerations should be:

    iriver Clix (2nd generation)

    Cowon D2

    Creative Zen V+ / Zen Vision:M

Just to add- iPods can play mp3s, they're not restricted to iTunes content in any way. :)

Tbh I bought a Creative Zen Vision M over an ipod because of the fact that i'd have to send it back to the states - I seem to be jinxed when it comes to buying gadgetry (three nokias in 48 hours anyone?)

Anyway sure enough the radio on my zen decided to go haywire and not work anymore and jam the zen any time I tried to use it. Got onto creative and had zero hassle, even though I didn't even have the receipt either. Posted it off to them yesterday.

So from my experience I'd go Creative purely because buying it from the states seems to create zero hassle. Also I think they're better players in general.

Oh and you can get it on Amazon.com for around 150e including shipping.
