Purple belt is a kyu grade not a dan grade. Yonkyu not Yondan. Yondan would mean that he's a fourth dan.

Im talking about Kata's here not Grades!
the name of the Kata he performed to get his purple belt is heian yondan, I just called it Yondan for short. Hence

, = hope your performance of Heian Yondan went well. I'm well aware that purple is a kyu grade, just as Yondan is a dan grade. I'm talking KATA names here.

do you have to be so anal?...Jeez....some people I swear just sit around waiting to snipe someones post, Im congratulating the guy for gods sake.. Havent you ever heard of Context??

The JKS was originally the Asai side of the JKA split of a few years back. It's now led by Kagawa, after Asai's recent death. The hombu dojo is in Ranelagh, and there are other dojos around the country. It's a pretty progressive org, with an emphasis on modern karate development, but still keeping certain traditional aspects of the art. Check out www.thejks.com .

I was at the JKS world championships in Okinawa the other week, and I'm hoping to spot some videos on Youtube soon! There was some phenominal karate by the Japanese contingent as expected.

Wow cool, Ill check out the site. The USKF is an Affiliate of the KUGB, sensei enoeda's side of the old JKA. very progressive and quickly becoming 1 of Irelands Largest and most active martial arts orginisations.
    http://uskf.org/ ;)

Will ya post the links to the videos of the competition if they go up on youtube?

Wow theres a congrads to Dermot O'Keeffe on the JKS website, I had a few classes with him. He recently split from the USKF to form the Red dragon shotokan club in swords. An excellent Karate Ka, almost as good as our chief instructors David Royal and Mick Sherlock

Ok. The JKS stands for either Japan Karate Shotokai or Japan Karate Shotorenmei. our main sensei in ireland is scott langley who i graded under last week. close to our karate club, there is actually a uskf club, which we hold the occasional competition against! Yeah, sensei scott said my heian yondan was very good, i know all the heian and tekki katas, but i tend to focus alot on kumite because i just so happen to be very good at it ;)!

we were actually once graded by both sensei enoeda and sensei kagawa, don't ask me how, but enoeda was there!

Yondan is a kata, part of the heian (or also commonly called pinan) katas.

Whats the difference between JKS & JKA, what are the advantages and disadvantages of being affilliated to either?
I'm in the process of getting JKA affilliation for my club in clondalkin that I am trying to keep on the lines of Traditional Shotokan Karate.
What can the JKS do to help new clubs?
