Codec Problem - I think????

    Hi,

I'm fit to throw my computer out the window at this stage i'm so frustrated with with it...about a month ago it suddenly decided to 'hack'(picture will pause and then catch up) during video(avi, mpeg any type of file.) playback. the audio is unaffected. i was using the k-lite Full codec pack with media player classic, as i've done since i got the computer 2 years ago.

I then tried the files with vlc player(as i think it has its own codecs installed, so conflicting ones shouldnt matter) but to no avail, the hacking still continued.

so last week i re-installed my OS thinking a fresh start would help. i then just installed vlc, and no codecs whatsoever, but the problem has started again.

i googled the problem, the result was a list of codecs to delete from the system 32 folder, which i did, again to no avail.
I then ran the codec tweak tool that comes with the k-lite pack = no help
    I also ran G-spot and un-registered any red(problem) filters = no help

I really thought that after the re-install I shouldnt have a problem, but still it persists and is doing my head in.

    my laptop is:
    Sony Vaio
    # Intel Celeron D 340 2.93GHz Processor
    # 512MB DDR SDRAM
    # ATI Radeon IGP 345M Graphics
    OS: Windows XP Professional

any help or advice that someone experienced could give me would be most appreciated,

    regards,

    steppen

well on my pc, the picture will pause and then catch up if i'm ever running lots of programs while im watching stuff.

I doubt its a problem with the codecs/vlc.

I thought of that so I turned all non-essential processes off...still the problem is there.

Download memtest86 and let it run overnight, that way you can rule ram out of the equation.

Maybe it's speedtep related where it slows down the CPU when idle but when under load the CPU jumps back again to full speed ?

    What you can try is this for software;

Remove any existing codec packs you have in the system and just use the CCCP for codecs.

Download ATI driver, try to install it will extract to a folder and say not supported.

Download Mod Tool & it will modify the files in the extracted folder to support the IGP 345M now go into the folder and run the setup file to install the display driver.
