    Hi I'm in NAvan
Just bought a Puma which needs a timing belt soon
    How much should this cost?
Is there much involved in fitting it if i was to do it myself

    Thanks

Puma timing belt replacment = 100'000miles or 10 years whichever comes first.
I would let the experts change it TBH,as i believe there are no timing marks on the crankshaft pulley, you will need a locking pin & camshaft locking bar also.
the kit from Ford is aprox €120 i think(is for mondeo);)

Well I called about a Honda Prelude the other day to as dealer and they quoted €330. I got it done off a my usual mechanic for €220 belt included.

I would say the price I had it done for was very cheap so I would expect anywhere in between the aabove numbers.

You can't do the timing belt yourself as it invloves taking the engine out of your car.

100K seems like a long time to use a belt.
Just looking at HJ - there are suggestions of 80K

Aye my Mondeo was done at 75000 miles. If you look around you will get different recommendations but 100000 seems a little high for a timing belt. I mean if that goes, your car goes :(

Don't dream of doing this unless you know what you're doing. You don't have to take the engine out but you'll lose the engine timing marks as soon as you remove the crankshaft pulley so you'll need a crankshaft locking pin and a cam locking tool to lock everything up before you take the old belt off.

I know a guy who fu*ked up on a Puma timing belt and ended up bending 16 valves when he turned the key...

    about 4 hours labour @ €40/hour
    and about 80 - 100 for belt/tensioner
add 21% vat to this to get a rough price

Alternatively, give your local ford dealership a ring - they should have a set price.

You shouldn't attempt this unless you know what you're doing - the crank pulley isn't keyed so the crankshaft is free to rotate with the pulley loosened.
You'll have to buy the locking kit to do it.
