Simple vectors question

    There is more to the answer but it's not relevant. Can someone explain to me why p and q would lie along L1 and L2?

    Taking L1 as an example I would have thought that 4i+2j-k would kind of 'offset' the vector so to speak so that p would not lie along it. ???

    What is meant is...

    the line L 1 is parallel to the direction of the vector p,

    and line L 2 is parallel to the direction of the vector q.
