confusion over different memory readings

    boughht 256mb hp memory online,bagged & tagged all good!(laptop already has 256mb so to bring it up to 512mb)
    have installed it ,gone to crucial and kingston to check and all good also!
    but when i go to system tab and check it states that i have 384mb,128 +256!?!
    (FROM BELARC ADVISOR)
    384 Megabytes Installed Memory

    Slot 'U5' has 256 MB
    Slot 'U6' has 256 MB




    WTF!
    any way of checking without any doubt what memory I have on laptop?
