    what does american style mean?

  • Registered Users Posts: 438 ✭✭Jools Poker

Good luck with this Jacques- just curious though about the "american style" thing?? what does that mean?

  • Registered Users Posts: 628 ✭✭✭jacQues

American style means that your starting stack equals your buyin. So 50 euro to start with (8x25c, 8x€1, 8x€5). It would be the exact same as starting with 5,000 chips and 25/50 blinds, but we are hoping to be different. ;D

The second difference is that minimum raises are equal to the last bet or raise (as opposed to the total bet before you) and chips will be put in the pot when possible in order to keep track of this (just like on TV so).

P.S. Yes I know the WSOP changed their chips this year - bastards! lol

I'd go for a look but the last time i tried to enquire about a tournament in the Corrib casino, the foreign doorman had trouble understanding phrases like "is there?" and "poker tournament"! Quite frustrating really! He was probably just used to drunk talk from the usual punter!

Nice to see the Corrib are finally doing something to try and attract custom. Now if they'd only work on their cash game promotions they might get all the custom

LOL @ some replies there. :)

We got 14 runners and 8 blind levels later the payouts were as follows:
    1st €335 jacQues
    2nd €220 David Collins
    3rd €145 Liam Nolan

Many thanks to all attending, Vesty for making this tourney possible and Carry for being a great TD even though he worked untill 7 am the previous day and was sick with the flu.

The next American style tournament will be 27 May 2007 at 5:30 pm. We are expecting three tables for that one.

    LOL

Before the final table I had AK suited / KK / JJ / 99 all busted by inferior hands and no callers for my QQ raise pre-flop. I got to the final nine with the shortest stack. After 40 minutes, not having played a significant hand at the final table, I was down to €8 with blinds at €2/€4. I pushed with 88 and trebled up (hitting a straight :D), then doubled up twice in a row with AJ suited and AQ suited. Back to average stack I then started knocking out the shortstacks.

At the bubble I changed gears dramatically; from Hamster-rock to extreme-LAG. I walked all over the other players and talked the shortstack (Junior) into donating his entire stack to me :p. David took Liam out (I wasn't involved in that hand). He had a 3-1 lead on me I think. I never bothered counting and continued to push him out of every pot, showing 6 high and such. After check-calling him all the way with bottom pair and winning against his drawing hand I knew he wasn't going to bluff me anymore. He had no clue where he was and I knew exactly where I was all the time. He check-raised me on the flop with the top pair and walked into my AA and a couple of hands later I won with 8 6 when he called my all-in with K T on a 8 7 3 flop.

Oh what a rush that was! :) I was humming and notably happy. Carry said he never seen me like that, even though I rarely not make the money. It was the 2BB => ITM that did it. It was a good tournament with a good structure. The "stack equal to the buyin" worked for everyone and Vesty immediately gave the go-ahead for next month.

I was fairly pi$$ed off with this so I decided to rig the rest of the tourney, its fair enough, cos they sucked out on me so much.
