    Hey all,
Anyone else notice that Swords NTL has lost some MMDS Freeview channels? (RTE1/2/TV3/TG4/E4) but still have Channel6.

    Anyone else like this?

There is no "freeview" on cable or MMDS. No sub, legally no channels, even if they happen to be unencrypted.

"Freeview" is trade mark of BBC UK DTT system.

I presume you mean un-encrypted, clear channels.

Sorry, I meant un-encrypted, thank you for the correction.
Is it the case that NTL are forced not to encrypted the national TV stations RTE1/2 (maybe TG4) just like NTL in the UK aren't allowed to encrypted BBC1/2/3/4 due to the agreements with the national broadcasters?

Down in Cork at least, almost everyone has their television connected up to the local cable network to recieve the unencrypted terrestrial channels, regardless of having a subscription or not. I know its technically illegal, but i don`t think anyone really cares.

In the UK the cable companies have to provide the five main terrestrial channels unencrypted and you have a right to watch these through the cable (provided of course you have a TV licence) even if your subscription has lapsed* although if you were ever to loose service due to a breakdown they dont have to reconnect you unless you resubscribe.

    * The fact that an expired $ky subscription card can still be used as an FTV card probably has something to do with this.

Even tough the law in Ireland is different I cant imagine the cable companies pursuing people for watching RTE via the cable when their subs have lapsed. For one thing how would they prove it ???
