Portarlington - receiving the Irish 3 or 4

    Hi Folks,

I'd really appreciate some advice. Up to last week my folks had Chorus and a good range of stations. They prematurely cancelled the service, due to an imminet house move which is now delayed and have been left with only being able to receive TG4 in very poor reception.

This is based on a portable set top arial that has a powered signal booster/amplifier.

The arial has an option to take a coaxial cable so I might pick up some long coax cable and place the arial upstairs near a window.

Can anyone from the midlands suggest if they are likely to be able to recieve the national 3 or 4 through such an arial?

If any else has any suggestions I'd appreciate it as it is driving them nuts.

    Thanks

Not sure if you use Kippure (Dublin direction) or Carn Hill (Longford Direction)

Try windows in both directions. Carn Hill is all UHF.

best value for a window sill or attic UHF.

An amplifier is not much use except to drive a long cable. Otherwise it actually can make the quality poorer!

    For RTE1 & RTE2 from Kippure you need VHF (TV3 & TG4 UHF everywhere)

Use either a regular Y adaptor to connect both aerials (Kippure only), or a VHF/UHF diplexer (looks the same).
