    Guys,
Just got me wireless broadband installed there, thank Westnet ;)

Now we have 2 laptops, going to have my wireless router next week which I will connect to my broadband.

Now I want to dump eircon ASAP and use VOIP.

I know that Blueface are recommended but I am confused as to what setup I should have.

Ideally I want a cordless phone as the router will in the roofspace and prefer to not have to run upstairs every time to make/receive calls.

I also want it to act as a normal phone, receive and make calls.

any suggestions and are Blueface good to use or do I even need them!!!

    Thanks

You could use one of these attached to router .. then attach any normal phone or wireless dect phone to the linksys.

The device gives you two lines .. I'm using one with a smart service which allows incoming calls to an 076 number and the other line to make calls with voipstunt ( 300 minutes free to all landlines / week)

Yes DECT phone via ATA is much better than WiFi. Better range, better quality and better talk/standby time. 1/4 price too. Up to 5 handsets cheaply.

Thanks for that guys, I wil get one of them ATA adapters off Ebay. I presume it will work with Blueface and my normal eircom handset?

    hello all.
am also on west net. find it very good.

decided to buy a linksys WRT54G wireless router so as that i can have wireless access on the laptop and make the place tidy from running cables everywhere! i ran the "setup" last nite for the router through one of the ports on the router (not using wireless as of yet!).
I can access the configuration of the router and when i do an "ipconfig" it shows my local IP address but i still don't have internet access. I set the router to use "Automatic DHCP".
MAC Address is populated on the router.
i did a "power cycle" on the linksys router, the white CPC box/wireless bb power and the laptop but still nothing.

i was wondering if there is something else that i need to set for when using west net?

won't get chance to check it again till friday but any advice would be good.

Post more info m8, post your full results of ipconfig /all (i presume its windows when your using ipconfig). Can you ping the ip adress of the router?

Checkout the Snom M3 – (new) a DECT VoIP (SIP) phone
    http://www.snom.com/snom_m3.html

    Manual: http://www.snom.com/uploads/media/snom_m3_User_Guide_short_version_v131_01.pdf

I have several Snom VoIP phones (not DECT) and the sound quality is even better than 64k ISDN.

Don’t bother with ATAs – they belong to the last century of analog telephones, delver poorer sound quality and don't support many of the features available on SIP.

I just got the Philips VOIP841 and I have to say it's the dogs nuts! :D

I can plug my land line and router into the DECT (6.0) transmitter and make and receive calls on and off line as I want to with no need for a pc being on. It's ACE and fully recammended! (for Skype use)
