Hey just wonderin does anyone have any advice for me. I want to put an engine from a crashed corolla 20 valve 1.6 94' into a 93' turbo starlet. anybody done anything like this before or have any tips for me. should physicaly fit [just about] but what about drive shafts and raditors and also how will the existing starlet eletrics deal with the 20 valve ecu. Any thoughts or comments?

Mate, dont do it. First of all the gains are minimal and that engine is less tunable than the mighty 4efte because its an NA. They dont "just fit it" either so you are going to have to manufacture new engine mounts. What i suggest is to get the money you have and buy a fmic, hks actuator, blitz boost controlor, blitz nur spec, ct9 hybrid and safely up the boost up to 1 bar. with that you should be able to push 180bhp easily!!

No can do, the starlet engine has two of its con rods poking out of the back of the block so its totally f##ked. Engine mounts are not too much of a problem cos Im farely handy with the mig welder. Figured out today that the starlet drives fit the corolla box so there sorted too. Wiring is the main prob cos it wont just plug together, but ill cross that bridge when I come to it.

As regards performance, in standard format the 1.6 20 valve pushes out more bhp than the 1.3 turbo, an I was told that the 20 valve I have ( when it was all in one peice) could out run a standard galanza.
So i reckon the bigger engine in the smaller, lighter car will make it farely quick. Anyway everybody has 1.3 turbos, i want somethin different.

if you want something different, just get a 1.5 cynos engine and turbo that. Plus the gain is too little for the hassle imo. But its up to you at the end of the day. If itwas my bucks i would put it into some engine mods.

have the engine in now with not too many problems apart from the fact that the 4efa is two inches longer than the 4efte. get wired up and ill be ready drop some jaws!

165 Bhp, thats standard for the 4efa 20 valve, she's not to slow, still have work to do on it yet so it'll be a while before i have it on the road.

Surely you mean that it's a 4age 20V, which in reality puts out about 145bhp (150 at a stretch). Every expert I've ever read or talked to says that Toyota lied through their teeth on this one. They can be tuned a little, but are less tunable than the 16V version. That said, it'll rev well and the throttle bodies give a nice sound.

165 unless the dyno is wrong, although you are right there not that tunable, but i dont really care.

What difference would a mod like this make to insurance?

    Lots, if its disclosed.

I figured. Out of interest MrFoxman how much has this mod added to your premium?

Contrary to popular belief disclosing modifications to cars does not always mean high premiums. A mate of mine was paying €500 on a 1.3 and finally came clean and told them about the 1.6 Supercharged Levin engine he had.

Insurance went up to a whopping €900.

Its not road insured yet but i rang quinn and they didnt have a problem as long as i declared it and get it ammended on the tax cert, just a 1.6 starlet to them

Nice one, I'm surprised they are so reasonable about it.

post up the dyno sheet, the 4age will not put out 165bhp;)

    where was it rr'd?

the more modern bzr levins cant even push 165:p

In standard tune it won't, but with lots of choice (and expensive) tweeks, 210bhp out of a 20V is meant to be possible, and 240bhp is possible out of a 16V.
The Levin BZR does between 145 and 150, when properly setup, but without modification.

of course its possible...anythings possible with enough cash, mods like 4branch and decat etc etc etc do SFA for N/A cars....you need to be looking at remapple ecu(apexi power fc,port and polish, high lift cams etc etc etc....still you will never get 210bhp out of a n/a 20valve...and deffo not 240bhp out of a 16v,jeez ive just been on this forum a few days and ive read some rubbish...those figures are possible IF TURBOED!!

Well, I've seen the dyno sheets to prove it. In fact, doesn't one of the Formula Atlantic series use the 16V and they get about 240bhp out of the 16V 4AGE.
Read the following if you think I'm talking rubbish:
    http://www.billzilla.org/4agmods.htm
BTW, you don't need a turbo to have a good engine, in fact, most really good engines aren't turbo (think Ferrari engines, Honda S2000, Porsche 911 GT3).
