Water Damage to Sony Camera

My daughter threw my recently purchased Sony Cybershot DSCP50 out of an upstairs window, it landed in a water container. The camera will now not power on, I can see a small bit of water inside the LCD screen. Is there any way of repairing the camera or should it just be thrown in the bin?

It's a also possible that the camera is Ok but the battery has been damaged, I don't have a spare battery to try it out.

Remove the batterey ASAP so that any charge left in if will not short through the camera. Make sure you leave the camera is a warm (not hot!) dry place for a few days to make sure that ever ounce of moisture is gone from the camera. Hopefully the water container was clean and fresh water so that there are no impurities or dissolved dirty that can be left dried inside the camera once. I'd not chance using the damaged battery again and I'd work with the spare battery. Hopefulyl with some luck you're camera will not be badly damaged if at all.
As for water being in the LCD screen, lets hope it isn't too badly damaged. At the worst case you could hope that the screen is just damaged but does not affect the cameras abitlity to capture images and upload them. The pain with this will be no being able to view your images on camera.

    Pete.

Thanks for the reply. I now suspect that the impact of the fall has caused more damage than the water even though no physical damage is present.

I tried to power the camera on using a different battery to no avail, I opened it up and removed any water. Even thought the camera is powered off the lens is out which I suspect is the cause of the failure.
