Mitsubishi L200 - brake problems??

    I'm still searching for a s/h pick-up - probably '00-'04.

    I've heard horror stories anecdotally about brakes seizing on L200s. I know of one guy (friend-of-friend) who had one and considers them lethal. Another one I heard of had approx. 4 accidents with a trailer. A quick trawl of the internet (Google, Honest John etc.) doesn't show up any such concerns. Does anyone have any experience of this?

    I'm leaning more-and-more towards a Navara/Pathfinder. Does anyone have one?

    Yeah I know the Hilux is the daddy in this sector but i reckon those Top Gear eulogies to it's durability means it's as over-hyped as Lewis Hamilton! (And consequently it seems over-priced...)

    I haven't heard of seizing brakes but the brakes on those things are terrible even when not seized!

    I'd reckon the problem is weight distribution.
    You have no weight on that rear axle and rear brakes can block easily, more so when you're towing a big, heavy trailer.

    Eh...why?

    I realise
    (a.) having no weight over the rear axle and
    (b.) the long rear overhang
    would be disadvantagous (to say the least). I don't need it for heavy off-road work - forest tracks, fields - that sort of thing.

    Is there about the L200 in particular that makes it especially unsuitable off-road?
